New Taycan Register

It's great to have a new Taycan Register Jon. Congratulations Jon on setting this up for all current and prospective owners of Porsche's incredible new Taycan.
l thought l would post my initial thoughts following a couple of weeks of ownership of a Gentian Blue Taycan 4S with the standard 79.2kWh battery. Long distance travel was not a priority for me so opted for smaller battery and spent difference on Led Matrix headlights, ParkAssist including surround view, 20-inch Turbo wheels and Black leather interior. Definitely adds to the overall desirability of the car adding additional quality and comfort.
l expressed my interest to Porsche Silverstone back in 2018 when the Mission E concept was unveiled and subsequently placed an order when the 4S was released in Dec 2019. As a result l was fortunate to be the first 4S on order at this dealership resulting in the car being delivered to Sheerness Port in Kent on the day before lockdown !! It stayed there until 21st May and was ready for collection on 27th May when showrooms were still out of bounds but l could collect my car with very limited handover. All precautions were in place to sign the necessary paperwork on a desk with a screen to segregate customer and dealer. The car was driver from the workshop to side of the showroom and after a quick verbal overview of the cars functionality and a look at the package containing the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect l was given the keys. There was no setting up of vehicle options as access to interior was limited to just the driver. A couple of weeks ahead of collection l did complete the registration for Porsche Connect and also the Porsche Charging Service for access to charging stations Porsche have agreed to use. In addition there was a £219 charge for the Car Vehicle Tracking System. There were issues in getting Connect and Tracking systems implemented but l don't know what caused the problems.
l needed to spend a considerable amount of time trawling through the manual in setting up the numerous options offered in in PCM system. The most complex was the Charging Profiles which enabled me to set up alternatives depending on where l was going to charge the car. For now it was all home charging as the nearest available Porsche service is 30 miles away from my home. The problem l initially had was not fully understanding how to set up a profile. As a result the charger limited the amount of charge going into the vehicle. l had 55% of charge left but somehow l had set the profile to 25% and until l changed this to 85% l was stuck with a decreasing battery. l even booked the car in to fix the problem until l used the Good to Know App which explained the setup. There is also lots of good advice on the TaycanForum website which l would recommend you read prior to picking up your car. Setting up the Porsche Mobile Charge Connect is straight forward although does take time.It was in all a very steep learning curve.

The car is really amazing to look at and although very few people know what it is on the road it does get some admiring looks.
Some petrol heads know what it is but most people don't realise that Porsche have a full EV car on the market.
The interior is of the highest quality and when seated you do feel you sitting in a very special car. It is certainly nice to get back into a low er seated car after owing a couple of Macan's. Performance is outstanding and with 523 BHP more than enough for most drivers. The 4S besides being the most affordable Taycan is regarded as the best choice of the range.
It is virtually silent in operation and l have had difficulty in knowing when it is switched on. One feature which is new to me is that when you unlock the car, get in, close the door and drop your keys next to the PCM the car switches on automatically and you are ready to go. Great feature.
l have not really been able to measure distance yet with the battery as l have only travelled about 300 miles. Would like to do a long run to determine 'real' mileage rather than the low EPA range of 203 miles.
Very thrilled with the car and hopefully will have some great moments driving it and experiencing the incredible acceleration it offers.
Hope some of this helps.

Many thanks Matt for putting your thoughts down. I had a very similar experience in terms of handover and long hours going through the manual. I even spotted some discrepancies between the manual and the car e.g. the manual talks about being able to connect the car to an external wifi network, but these options are not available in the PCM. Some of this is to be expected with a brand new car I suppose. I know exactly what you mean re: petrolheads versus others...driving through a town centre it is clear who is who by which turn their heads to stare!
I did a long trip on Sunday and got the battery down from 100% to 13%...I just made it home in time. I have not figured out the best options for public charging yet (aside from Porsche centres or the couple of Ionity ones), or the easiest way to see chargers on the Nav system...this is a whole new world for me.

HI Jon, just to make sure l have access on journeys l have signed up with Polar Plus (BP/Chargemaster) as they have at least 6000 chargepoints across country. My nearest is 1.2 miles away at a Holiday Inn and can charge at 50 Kwh for a cost of 15p per KwH which is same as home cost. They charge £7.95 per month and first 3 months free. Its just a backup for now. Once Porsche have more units then l will cancel.

Thanks Matt. Do you use the Polar app to find the charging points, or do they show up in the Taycan PCM? I think it might do the same and sign up...it is a good back-up policy

There are two apps you can download - Polar Plus which you can then subscribe to and the map will show locations nearby or Polar Instant which does not need a subscription and you pay as you go which has a nice list of chargers. They do not show on the Porsche app as far as l can see.

Just thought I would add my little bit on the Taycan. This is what I posted on my FB page earlier this week.

Whilst waiting at the Porsche Centre Kendal for a couple of niggles to be sorted on my car, I was asked if I would like to try out one of their ‘milk float’ demonstrators, a Porsche Taycan Turbo. I have never driven an electric car before, but this fully electric car was absolutely fabulous! It exceeded all my expectations. As a driver’s car I doubt there is a parallel, very fast, well planted, stunning cornering and the poise of a supercar. It was hard to believe that, at over two tons, this car handled like a dream and sprinted out of the blocks like a bullet. I was so impressed. With the sound mode on it was hard to believe it was electric. I loved it. Just a pity the range is limited and the UK has such a poor distribution of charging points. Would I have one? Only if the range and charging points can be massively improved.

As a first EV for Porsche they have certainly made a magnificant start!

Thanks Peter, good to hear you liked the handling and speed. I share your concerns about the charging infrastructure, but I think this will change quickly. There are over 9000 charging points now, but 2000 of these have been added in the last year...and this rate may increase. I am getting over 210 miles per 'tank' (full charge) in mine, which suits me fine for what I do with it.
cheers

Hello All
I signed up for a Taycan Turbo on the day of launch in September. Build was due in March with potential delivery at or very soon after the UK launch.
However, still waiting for clarity on when I will actually see the car, with my dealership getting increasingly frustrated with the lack of clear communication from Zuffenhausen. Nothing seems to be moving to or from the docks. They are due to talk with Germany on Monday so I hope to hear something next week.
I did though take up an option for a test drive last week.
The car certainly lives up to all expectations during the first 1.5 hours.
For now I have my Cayman S to keep my Porsche stimulation....

Hi Paul!
Did you order a Turbo/Turbo S, or 4S? My dealer told me the turbos were all being significantly delayed. Which dealership are you with? You must be quite frustrated after all this time, but glad you got some time in a test drive model. Do keep us posted...
cheers
jon

Looks great, doesn't it - will be going for a test drive for sure [:)]
The profile shots seem quite different to the press shots IMO, more Porsche like if that makes sense.

I ordered a Turbo with the order confirmed January.
First I had heard they are particularly delayed, not least as the production system seems to suggest the build has been completed...
I was surprised the 4S arrived ahead of the Turbo/Turbo S orders. Not good PR frankly, treating customers that way.
Yes it is frustrating, but above all the paucity of clear communication from Germany makes it worse. I had accepted the pre-Covid delay once we had transparency. Now it's all gone 'opaque' again.
My dealership (Reading) have been pretty good at trying to find out what's going on but they are in the dark too. I hope to hear the outcome of their discussions with Germany early next week.
Watch this space!

Hi Paul - I agree it is illogical to start deliveries with the 4S instead of the Turbos, and not good PR. I began enquiries on mine in June 2019, and placed my order around end September. Initially I was told delivery could be end Jan / early Feb, then the UK launch was pencilled in for end Feb, then put back to March, and I wouldn't be able to take delivery before the UK launch, so we agreed on a delivery date a few days after that. Then I decided to get PPF (paint protection film) done by Topaz in Bristol (I would highly recommend this - Greg there is the guy to speak to), which added an extra week. The car arrived back at the dealership the day before lockdown, and the rest is history...
I can only imagine there is some technical reason related to the Turbo's larger rear motor that is behind the delays, but I guess Porsche will not want to admit that...
Fingers crossed for you.

Welcome to the Forum, Jon, and to your new role. Good to see your car is in the 2nd best colour...!
Mine is Dolomite Silver...!
I ordered my 4S in October and was advised delivery would be mid-June...
I have had several different cars but waiting for the Taycan is a very frustrating strange feeling...!
I am advised it should arrive in the next couple of weeks, sob, sob !

@ymt400 You mentioned a Taycan Forum website... is that within the Porsche Club GB site or somewhere else?

Meanwhile, I'm a proud owner of a black Taycan 4S. Picked it up at the beginning of June and I love it. Suddenly I'm wanting to do all the school runs!

The only niggles I have are software-related really as the handling, acceleration, speed, etc are out of this world (for me at least, never having been the owner or driver of a fast car!)

The things that bug me:
I saved destinations in the navigation system and they got wiped.
When you power down the Taycan it doesn't automatically apply the handbrake.
If I switch on the power re-gen function then I want it to stay on for every drive until I switch it off. However, it only stays on for the current drive. If I park, leave the car and come back again, the setting is off. That applies to other settings like the sound effect setting too.

As I say though, driving-wise, I can't get enough. Everyone wants to be my passenger and, as has been mentioned, because not many people have seen them or know about them, it does turn heads. First time I've had a car that would do that. It's all the Porsches that turned my head has a kid that got me to this point so I'm dead chuffed.

Hi, I have just taken delivery of my new Taycan 4S + in Gentian Blue.
My first ever EV (not even driven an EV before) and so far very pleased and impressed. It's quick and very comfy and the quality is high. A lot to learn I think, but I'm getting there.
As my daily and company car I love it. And it's very tax efficient as well.
