New Taycan Register

Hi Jon. What a great idea. Picked up our Taycan 4S yesterday (Frozen blue with black trim) - very excited, she is beautiful - but what a steep learning curve (our first Porsche and our first EV). Have just joined Porsche Club but have yet to enter details of car etc. Meanwhile our main issue is getting the Connect Plus App etc set up properly. So any tips from anyone on here would be welcome.
David & Karen

Hi there - you mention difficulties with implementing the Connect system - how did you resolve it in the end? Thanks, David

Finally, the 'beast' is here. Picked her up on Saturday. What a joy to drive. So smooth, ballistic performance and amazing handling. Very happy [:)]

Hello,
I had a drive in a friends Taycan 4s at the weekend. They are a fantastic car. The pick up from any speed is unbelievable. Nothing like a combustion engine.
My favourite thing was how comfortable it was for a car with this performance. I think it had air suspension. No lean through the bends either. Found it an easy car to drive too, didn't seem too wide or long to maneuver.
I haven't got any photographs as I was so excited by it I never even thought. It was jet black metallic with the turbo aero alloys.
I must admit I never thought an electric car could could make me smile!

Hello Henry,
Yes the Taycan 4S is a fantastic car, and is a comfortable high performance car... and yes, mine makes me smile more than any of the other cars that I have had...
It has Air Suspension as standard... See below...

Hi all Taycan turbo in volcano grey in Yorkshire collected from Bristol - I know a long way away but service great and they could supply much quicker than local dealer
drive Bristol to Yorkshire without a charge then " filled up” at home -even with standard rate electrics ( still awaiting octopus half hour meter)
around £10 for 200 miles so that the economy box ticked

thrn tried a "quick trip " Over Yorkshire dales - that’s performance ticked

4wheel drive - immediate immense acceleration -and so smooooth and quiet
filled up at Leeds IONITY charger 39 mins 31% to 80 -and free as the ABB chargers are not working correctly (190kw max) so free charge ????

explored launch control in the safety of an empty early morning services car park WoW
then back to driving an Aston Martin From York to Cumbria with some like minded friends
had to think about rear wheel drive traction oversteer etc.
although the Aston has 750 bhp I’m sure the taycan turbo is much faster A -B on any roads other than German autobahn

a great car
and charging from solar on these rare sunny Yorkshire days -free????

Hi, I'm another Gentian Blue 4S. Took delivery on Monday, this week, 10th. I've had the car wrapped in expel on the front, the sills and boot entry shelf. I'm really pleased with the car. I echo some of the other "observations" around selecting recuperation or ride height only to have to resubmit them on restarting the car. I'm sure there's a way of getting around this? I've been reading an article by Alex Roy where he talks of getting 295 miles from the Turbo he borrowed in the US. Also the article about the guy who bought a TS and drove it 11,400 miles around the US just before lockdown.
With the hot weather I'm struggling to get the tyre pressures correct. Does anyone know the physics behind the fronts being higher than the rears? Weight? Steering? Can't find any information anywhere.
Still experimenting and looking forward to more hints and tips as we all discover our new cars.
I'm dyed in the wool Porsche: 964C2/993C2/996C4S/993T4-450/MacanS Diesel/MacanGTS and a 356SC which I still have.
Looking forward to meeting with some of you folks sometime soon, C19 permitting!
Be Well

Hi again, we visited the Silverstone porsche experience centre yesterday morning , and had a great time - not been there before
Victoria ( daughter ) had a Taycan Turbo, unfortunatley they only had a Turbo S for me

The mornings experience included +2 hours of drive time in your car following or leading yoru individual driving consultat in a seperate car ( COVID sepration rules ) they can talk to you through a radio link , but you cannot answer back

The Taycans were trully impressive when compared with some of the conventional vehicles, they are over 2 tonnes but perform well on the handling tracks, and with stability control off can be drifted up the "ice" hill sideways

we arrived to a breakfast, and left after a lunch , thoroughly good "Dad and daughter" morning

then had to revert to "normal" to drive back to yorkshire
We tried to charge at the silverstone centre using porsche fast DC charger arriving with 35% battery remaining, but the fast chargers kept cutting out after 4-5 mins , so we only charged to 70% after multiple reconnections . The chaps there said there was an impeding service action to replace cable from DC charge port to inverter, anyone know anything about this

I have used Ionity charger at leeds with no problems previously

Thanks Jon
just enjoying using the car and trying to avoid too many silly launch controls...
waze on carplay is very useful!!

I picked up my Taycan 4s in July and am loving it - I also have a 993 Targa and was keeping my 8-year old Panamera as well in case I got range anxiety but have just sold it.
So far, BIG disappointment when I collected it to see range at 205 miles despite specifying performance battery plus but now with software update and 1,000 miles of driving range is 270 miles as advertised. Methinks the salesman did 5 very quick miles to 'check' the vehicle. Seems to charge pretty quickly on Andersen charger fitted at home and Tesla chargers at work and so getting relaxed about range. Portable £767 charger with 13 amp plus seems a complete joke - very slow but maybe it will get me out of a fix at some point. Charging network seems a little chaotic but I am sure that I will work it out and with Covid was lucky to get delivery of vehicle - I gather that cars are selling for £10k over list right now.
On delivery took up the tracking option but it took a month for Porsche to activate it properly and insurer said that without it they would not cover theft so that may be a problem if parking is not secure.
Took up 1/2 day at Porsche Silverstone which was MEGA - the instructors really know how the cars work and so are months ahead of the dealer network although I will book myself in for a masterclass when I have some more questions - the Porsche Connect / myporsche app is a little clunky but I am sure that they will get it right. It's also annoying that the USB ports in the car are non-standard USBc ports but my techie mates tell me that they are much better (would have been nice to have been provided with a lead from dealer so phone would work). Also the wireless charging does not work on UK models. But Apple carplay is good and means that i can use Waze etc rather than Porsche satnav if needed.
All this sounds a little negative - it really is an amazing car and the launch control is unbelievable. Also my kids say that it's awesome and everyone who sees it wants it and loves the drive.
I would like to know about charging on longer journeys and setting up battery correctly - currently set up for 100% charge at all times.

Thanks William and Peter for your posts. Can I ask re Silverstone...I've not done this yet myself...do you think it works OK with the instructors just over the radio instead of in the car with you? I can't imagine they will be able to go back to having them in the car with you anytime soon, so I won't wait for that...but just interested in how well that side of things worked. Also, do you know if they allow passengers (i.e. my two sons) in your car when you are driving around? I can ask them of course, but just curious if you know.
William re: battery charging. I only charge mine to 100% the night before a long journey. Otherwise I understand it is better to set the charger to stop at 85%, as this will preserve the life of the battery.

Re Silverstone - it was great on radios but no guests allosed - health & safety very tight but no problem with instructions on radio

HI all , very quiet on here
question re PCM, the central two screens
I have an issue, and would appreciate advice, sorry for long post
PCM screens switch off and reboot on their own, noone touching them, sometimes but only after +1 hour of so of driving

so the details i have at the moment
Two weeks ago, drove from yorkshire to Cambridge, Enfield and back to Yorkshire, Taycan was great, quiet, smooth, addictive accelaration, as always

BUT the PCM reset as below
about 1 hour into the journey, driving Just before cambridge, phone connected but using PCM for nav to the Cambridge ionity charger, radio on. Radio muted, ( i did not realise this at the time, but later repeats showed a conistent pattern) not poss to restore volume, and the 40 second later PCM screens blanked out, after 30 seconds or so reset , but lost nav destination, had to reenter, continued fine,... for 76 minutes, then exactly the ssme repeated, 5 mins later the same again.
Then OK for 10 minutes, repeat again but screens did not restart on their own, had to double tap top right with two fingers, restarted. 5 minutes later repeated, but would not restart at all, stayed off - (tricky when using to navigate to a charger - phone and waze saved the day)

Ionity charger great 35% to 99% on 40 mins or so, when restarted car all working as normal, continued to Cambridge , meeting, then to Enfield, North London, (about 1 hour ) repeated again exactly as the first time, as i arrived at Enfield, restarted on its own

travelling home from Enfield to yorkshire later that night
all good, charged at Ionity Peterborough ( another good experience)

on Journey Peterborough to yorkshire, I did not have the phone connected - just trying to see if it made any difference, but again after just over an hour a repeat of the mornings PCM failures twice , but resrarted each time on its own

used car for travel to work and back next 5 days , 15 mins - 30 mins journeys , no problems,

Yesterday drove from Holmforth to Knutsford 1hours 5 mins in the morning , no issues, on return i stopped before crossing the moors as i was tlking on the phione and vodafone signal is always lost ( in all cars) on this route, so in layby in park for 30 mins or so, continued journey and agan radio Mute , 40 secs later PCM restart after about 1.10 of journey time (inc the stationary time in layby on phone)

its booked in at JCT Leeds Porsche next week to investigate, anyone else seen this , and have any pointers to offer, im just a little worried that JCT wont have time for a 1.2 hour test drive. but maybe just leaving car on keys in would allow to replicate - does taycan go to sleep if left on ??

any help appreciated

Many Thanks

Peter
Taycan Turbo, may 2020 build, all updates installed as at 6 weeks - no other problems at all ( tempting fate there - fingers crossed )

Although I’m not yet in the market for a BEV, let alone a Taycan, I‘d be very interested to see a comparative test between it and a Panamera, either as a pure ICE variant or hybrid, but can’t find any official back-to-back motoring magazine tests. Maybe Porsche marketing/press fleet management are reluctant to let the journos loose with both cars at the same time?

Meanwhile we’ll have to make do with this comparison which raises some interesting issues:

Hi,

After just having incorrectly posted a Taycan content post in the 911 section, sorry, I thought I'd say hello here.

Collected my Taycan Turbo S on Friday. Just done 9 miles since then.

Amazing bit of kit.

Cheers,

Simon
