Wider wheel setup

My 3.2 Carrera Sport has its original 1988 Fuchs 16in wheel set up which is great but like the look of the wider wheel set up so often seen with these cars. I was was wondering what the best wheel/tyre combo is for a narrow body and whether changing will have any detrimental affect say on wheel bearings, ride, etc. Any thoughts please.

Hi.
What I did when I had my 3.2 Carrera was to put the rear wheels on the front and purchased two turbo Fuchs wheels for the rear.
Sorry can't remember tyre set was a few years ago.

Yes, that's what I am thinking of doing then I can keep the original rear wheels should I decide to change back.

Bigger wheels and tyres might add more grip, but they will also add more power sapping weight, and could negatively affect the ride and handling finesse.
Unsprung weight savings are a multiple of sprung weight, so very valuable on a car like a 911 with only 231bhp.
If aesthetics are the objective, would Porsche ‘spacers’ not be a simpler, lighter and less expensive solution.
Although,,whatever you do, you should then get an expert geo/set up

Hello
It is a long time since I have been on the forum, but I am still here with my same 3.2 Carrera.
I kept the standard Fuchs wheels and standard sized tyres and fitted 21mm wheel spacers to the rear hubs. This sorted the looks.
My insurance company is happy with the modification.
One word of caution regarding fitting the wider rear wheels to the front, depending upon tyre size the tyres may foul the front wheel arch outer edge, take care.
