Why I rejoined PCGB

When I rejoined PCGB after a few years absence, this being my fifth Porsche, I did so looking forward to enjoying my 944 with like minded people, getting out to as many shows as I can throughout the Summer and basically having the car and club as an escapism from the normal turmoil of life. There are threads appearing now that make me wonder if I did the right thing coming back into Porsche ownership as there seems to be more and more disgruntled contributors each day.

We all have things in our life that we carry with us, I retired from work six years ago at the age of 39 with two separate chronic illness's, each of which could see me off any day, I have two kids and a mortgage, my 944 is my passion and takes my mind off everything else.

I have made many good friends across the classic car scene in my twenty odd years restoring , showing and judging at car shows across the country. You will always run into people who's views and opinions differ whether it be face to face or on forums, but ...and it's a big but, the good always outweighs the bad.

So please, let's go back to basics and remember why we joined the club and enjoy our 944's, here's a few pics of mine as I know we all love pics and I look forward to meeting people throughout the year.

All the best, Paul

Your post pretty much mirrors all of my feelings most of which I have happily shared.
I hope your health goes as well as it can and you continue to enjoy your hobby for years to come.

Well said Paul and what great photos of your pride and joy.[:)] Just wish I had the knack of posting images to this forum.[&:]

Well said Paul. Very lovely car! Hopefully when I am done welding and squint a bit mine will look the same.

Hi Paul,

Lovely looking car, I like the black exhaust and she looks very tidy inside as well.

I agree with your views on owning and enjoying our cars that is what they and most hobbies are for, getting away from the everyday hum drum of normal life and I have enjoyed doing so with mine for 11.5 years and will continue to do so for a long time, I am very passionate about the 944 and the marque as a whole, the 944 owners in general are a great crowd and that goes as well for majority of members of PCGB, but as with all things in life there are always a few that either don't mix, get on or just rub others up the wrong way and then of course there are the days we all have now and again as human beings - bad ones!

The written word can be taken out of context or mis-understood all to easily, the use of smileys sometimes can help and then there is predictive text, all which can influence the reader's take on what has just been read.

I believe that forums should all be read and information taken on board with a little pinch of salt at times, I sometimes think that if a post was to suggest you should "put your hand in the fire" some would!

If a post is written in reply that is in text speak, discourteous, rude or otherwise offensive it should be treated with the contemt it deserves, just ignored rising to the bait and having a keyboard war is pointless and which is why I believe 2 long standing forum members have decided to leave.

Most of my involvement on the forum is to do with events, getting out and about in the 44, if that is what you joined for then do just as I do and ignore all the other stuff, we have some great events already planned for this year I know you are a little further away but it would be great if you could get down for 1 or 2.

Best wishes
Andy

That is one disgustingly nice clean 944[:D]

Almost looks like day it as delivered but better

Must have spent a lot blood sweat and tears to get that standard

Mind you someone will pont out something about valve and centre cap alignment

Crests to valves Paul, crests to valves!!

What a beautiful car, a real credit to you.

Well I hope Paul that you soon feel that you 100% made the right decision to come back. With an S2 looking so stunning, it would be a pitty not to enjoy the whole ownership experience. Yes, really a stunning 944 you have there! [8D]

He is just showing off !! [:D]
Paul is a mate of mine BTW and his S2 is really is as good as the pictures look, we seem to be getting a nice collection of 944's up here in North and West Cumbria, another mate Steve has just bought a lovely 220 Turbo in Guards Red.
Mike Moore will be getting a S2 project this week to go along side his Alpine White 250 Turbo and 964 Anniversary and we have Martin in the Frozen north of Carlisle with his minty late model Turbo and now a 968.(The S2 used to belong to Paul)
We will be making a decent turnout at some of our local shows and further afield, Germany for a week or so at the end of April.
Feeling a bit guilty today as i have spent 2 days under mine with new belts and various bits and bobs, need to do some family time, though i do have loads of hobbies apart from my cars i always try to put some time aside.
Wise words Rudds !

Forget to sat straighten the centre caps as said crests pointing to valves and get those HT leads squared up !

crests pointing to valves
takes me back to my days in the army! The comment would have been "idle centre caps"....
Better go and line mine up before someone spots that they are pointing in random directions.

Good to see positive comments and hopefully we will have some good weather this Summer so we can get our cars out and enjoy what they were designed for ..... Being Driven [:)]

Paul, what a fabulous example and a great credit to you - I keep coming back to this thread to look at those pictures. And Martin: hear hear!
