Saturday, 4:30 for an hour or so. We have a Register Secretaries meeting, saving the need for an axpensive conference in November. All you need to do is supervise the 944 bonnet signing, and generally make people welcome if they come to see the Register display and chat about 944s.
Both mornings, I need someone to either man the Register display from opening at 10:00, or to stand at the entry lane and pick 944s out to join the display. I can do one, but not both! It's a shame we had so few cars come forward for the display, but we need to get about ten of the 944s entering the event on each day to park on the display.
I think it would have been better to call it "944 parking", rather than "display", as I know from experience that people always think their car isn't good enough to put on "display", as if it's some sort of concours thing. The first few 944s through the gate will be on the display, so if you've got the worst-looking old shed on the Register please get there early. [
So. I need a volunteer for the Saturday afternoon slot, and for the entry lane on both mornings. Email 944@porscheclubgb.com, or o7971 83278o.
Thanks!

But I do agree with you that I would expect that there will be more than 30 944s there.

Based on the number of people who post on this forum, I can't believe we don't have 30 cars for display.
Alan.
Sadly based on what I have seen the last couple of years I can believe it. Personally I have not been sure if I would be able to go or not for a myriad of reasons so was unable to commit as a definite. Happily it looks like I will be there on Sunday though I assume not being able to be part of the display ?
I suppose what baffles me most is that forum users are from time to time trying to arrange get togethers, yet this is organised and open to all. I'm not sure if people think it's all about 911's and newer models, well it will be if no one supports it from the 944 brigade.

As Paul has already mentioned, "display" sounds a bit daunting and gets you counting the stone chips. The "my car isn't good enough" for a "display" syndrome, if you like.
Then there is the matter of timing. By the time Paul had managed to valiantly overcome the Club's disinterest in doing anything to mark the anniversary of the 944 many of us had made other plans and committed to other things, that's the reason why I can't be there on the Sunday and I did end up cancelling something else I had planned for the Saturday in order to make that.
"The Weather" plays a part. I have been to soooo many washouts this year in terms of car shows, race meetings and canoeing competitions that I struggle to raise enthusiasm for yet more mud-slugging.
There's a lot of other stuff on that weekend. Cranleigh classic car show, Berkshire Classic Car show, Capel classic show, ... and those are just 3 that I've been invited to....
Economic climate is another; it is probably fair to say that 944 owners, on average, operate on a more constrained budget than some of the other Porsche model owners.

Jon, I'm sure if you contact Paul he can sort you out for the display.

Is it not a PCGB event? I didn't think they allowed non members in the display area, they certainly didn't when I was a member. Unfortunately my car will be off the road for a while yet, when it's back and if I rejoin PCGB I'd certainly get active again like I was in the past and help to boost the numbers. Looking at the signatures of users of this forum it seems that a very large portion are non members which may explain why your numbers will be low, assuming as mentioned that non members will not be able to display their cars.

I am not sure of the rules for "displaying" a 944 at the show but it is a PCGB event and (according to the person I spoke to at PCGB today) is "members only admission" on the Saturday. It is open to the public on Sunday.

That's how events were run in the past too Glen, public were allowed on the Sunday, members only on the Saturday, however to display your car you had to be a member of PCGB, I doubt that this has changed but stand to be corrected if I've got it wrong.
