wheel fitment

ORIGINAL: texpis Sorry all confused the situation I have found some new wheels with this offset he recons the rears will stick out 12mm more than the origionals. 6x16 et55 7x16 et40 I meant to put this up last time bit of a senior moment Mick
These early Boxster wheels will fit your car (and theyll fit 924Ss too). The rears will stick out by an extra half an inch as stated, but the cars arent sensitive to rear offset so thats not a problem and itll help to fill the arches a little. The fronts should have 15mm spacers fitted to fit correctly, but they wont be too bad without. All 944s should have front wheels that are a minimum of seven inches wide though... As a price guide, I bought a set of these with good matched tyres and crested centres for £110 two years ago, so theyre not worth a great deal. Simon

hi guys, i have a similar question contemplating purchasing a set of boxter s wheels for my 944 s2. the offset is ET55 front and ET50 rear. will these fit my s2 does anyone know. the existing d90 offset is et 52.3 front and rear cheers

Just wanted to concour with Simon 6 inches is too small for a 944, it might be okish on an early car with small ARB, but certainly not on later one - my 2.7 came with 6J all round , felt badly wrong!

Texpis, the critical info you need is in the back of your handbook. It will tell you the offset you need as the ET number i.e. ET55 fr/ET50 r. If you are looking to buy other gen porsche wheels for your car, the numbers are helpfully embossed either side of the tyre valve. The smaller number is the rim width in inches, and the larger is the ET or offset. So you can ask a vendor to text you a photo of the tyre valve area to confirm what you are getting is kosher and will fit. I'm just about to put a set of 17 inch Boxster crab claws on my S2 and the numbers are 7/55 front and 8.5/50 rear. I'll let you know how I get on!

Guys, there's a really useful site www.alloywheelsdirect.net who not only sells lots of refurbed and new alloys but also has lots of info on the site about correct sizes, offsets etc for many cars! Worth a look.

Further to post #26 above, remember that the offset that you require isnt fixed (so any offest found in a handbook only applies to the wheels fitted, or those of similar dimensions). The offset will alter as you increase the wheel rim width, by 12.7mm for every inch of added width; in order to keep the rims centre where the manufacturer intended. Simon

Hmm, I am confused now. My S2 has 8 inch D90's ET 50 on the front. The 17 inch 7/52 Boxster crabclaws look like they will need a 10mm spacer to clear the hub centre boss. The rears fitted fine.

A look on the Porscheshop site reveals all. They sell refurbed boxster wheels and advise 6mm spacers for 944/968. Duly ordered them (£30) and the wheels fit fine although the centre caps are just lifted off. Pics to follow. I'm very pleased with the result!

OK, finally got around to uploading some pics of the 17 inch Boxster S 'crab claws'. I think they set the car off very nicely.
