Hi all
is there a guide to what wheels fit a 944 just looking for some nice wheels and tyres for the 944 will some 17 inch off a Boxter fit?

Mick

There's a guide in the FAQ at the top of the 944 page http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=403251 It all depends on the age of your vehicle and the width and offset of the wheels you have your eye on

Cheers for the replies my car is a s2 1991 the wheels are of a boxster he is unsure of the offset.Tyre size is
4 X 17" PORSCHE TWIST WHEELS
FRONT WHEEL SIZE 2 X 225 40 R17
BACK WHEEL SIZE 2 X 255 40 R17
Mick

Be very weary of Boxster wheels on an S2. Im not sayig none will fit as a boxster can have many wheels BUT the S2 and Turbo have quite a different fit/offset because of the brakes. Your average 16" Boxster alloys ( like the perfect refurbed set I bought) won't fit an S2 or a Turbo but will normally fit any other late 944 such as a 2.5 lux/2.7 lux or an S. Also are you not quoting tyre sizes there not wheels sizes ? With 17" you tend to be a bit better on the brake clearance but still check the offset. Regards Mas

Not quite Mas. Paul Smith and I both have S2s on Boxster wheels with no issues (no wheels outside the car, no rubbing inside etc.). His 951S is also on Boxster wheels. The issue I think you are referring to are with the 220 Turbos (yours had 16" Teledials right) which shared its offset with the earlier cars.

Hi i athe size of the wheels are Fronts are 17x7.5 ET = -15 Rears are 17x9 ET = -23 will they fit? Mick

Are you certain that theyre genuine wheels? They certainly arent regular offsets - theyll suit early 944s, but later cars and all subsequent 911s and Boxsters have had 50mm-75mm offsets in the widths listed. Simon

They dont look correct for normal Boxsters - they may fit my '83 car. I'd be rather wary Mike Edit - Simon got in first!

I dont claim to know much re 944's but I think those posting above will agree that I may have a point on this one , all I am saying is that 'some' in fact many boxster alloys will not fit an S2 due to offset. Best of luck anyway Mas

The usual issues are diameter and backspace. The wheels referred to here wont fit a Boxster, let alone an S2! [:D] To fit a 1987 model year onwards car, then theyd need an offset of about 60mm at the front and an ideal of 78mm at the rear. Youd probably get away with 60mms at the rear though, as theyre not particularly sensitive to rear offset...

Hi Still on the hunt for wheels will this size fit the chap selling them recons the front will fit and the rears will stick 12mm out further out. Mick

They will not fit your car, if the offsets mentioned are correct. The vendor is either ignorant or simply misleading you to effect a sale.

Sorry all confused the situation I have found some new wheels with this offset he recons the rears will stick out 12mm more than the origionals. 6x16 et55 7x16 et40 I meant to put this up last time bit of a senior moment Mick

of course no-one has mentioned the most important thing - Boxster wheels look wrong on 944's [:'(]

Yes you are probably right but I have just renwed the sills repaired the wings replaced the timing belt/water pump and changed all the fluids. The wheels need refurb and the tyres are fubared so need some cheap wheels and tyres so I can refurb mine when I have the cash . Mick

How refreshing! Someone who thinks the same way as me on this matter! (And something that edh and I agree on! [:D] ) Oli.

That's right Oli ..and it's even more important on the slow ones where you have more chance to see the wheels... [;)] :ROFLMAO:

that's right - I feel sorry for the owners who can't say "I may have Boxster wheels, but at least I've got boooost" [;)]
