what did you do to your 944 today

Recently replaced seals on cylinder head oil pressure valve. Checked and re set ignition timing. Fitted a Kenwood digital amp on my CDR22 transformed the sound.Loads more little jobs to do.Was going to sort the paint but going to wait and get that done over the winter. Just going to drive the thing this year and not worry about how it looks.

Fitted new spark plugs, coil and a Promax chip. Feels a bit smoother throughout the range. A useful couple of hours.

well today was a frustrating day...went for MOT...time was short as i had a lot to do to get upstairs ready for the plasterers tomorrow.... anyway got to the MOT station and first thing I did was pointed out that my odometer had malfunctioned...the 6th digit had gone on a journey of it's own now showing nearly 500k...my last MOT was 195k and for my entire history of owning the car I'd averaged less than 10k a year....so the guy said he'd check my history leaving me to think that would be enough. I then noticed him and another guy trying to work out what the odometer actually said...it was just turning to 500k even though the other digits where only at 2000...what it should be reading is 202000..without consulting me they were about to log 502000 even though common sense showed this was impossible...now I accept that they have to record what's shown but they should have spoken to me about their intentions first, especially as they know the car, hell they did last years MOT...lol So I stopped the MOT in it's tracks, no way am I going to have a false reading adding 300k to my mileage....let's just say I was pissed..lol Tomorrow my son is taking the odometer apart to fix the problem so I can do a retest.....hassle that I could certainly do without right now......

sounds like 'Autobrite' my son swears by it, buys it by the bucket load...he currently has a 5 ltr tub of shampoo in the workshop plus 2 other 5 ltr tubs...one is a spray on polish, not sure the other, it's just his latest delivery...at work he has more polishing products than I can count. anyway I used a little of the shampoo, yep smells like bubblegum...made the car a deeper red, even my wife noticed...will try the polish soon...

Afternoon all, just to update on this fiasco....I eventually found time to take the binnacle out to have a look at the speedo. It would seem that when we installed the new plastic gear last year when the odometer stopped working we had accidently dislodged the speedo dials a little, this resulted in the 6th dial being able to spin independently of the others. After a bit of playing around, it was possible to disengage the 6th/5th digits to reset at the correct figure of 202K. This brings up an interesting question , how many 944's out there have been clocked? I ask as it would have been very easy for me to set the odometer with a reading of just over 2000 miles....makes you think doesn't it?...lol Anyway so this time, going to another MOT station (I refused to go back to other idiots) the the car passed even though over the last two weeks the car had suddenly developed a small fuel leak only spotted during the MOT, since they knew my son would fix it being only 1/2 mile away they allowed it. I went straight to my son's garage and we discovered that the banjo from the fuel pump had worked its way loose, this is the second time that this has happened, could be due to the more powerful pump and that it's a pulse system and I have no damper fitted these days. I suggested to my son that perhaps we fit another damper but he doesn't like that system and so he's going to look at modifying the DME to remove the pulse, something he's already done on a customers Focus ST with 400 BHP.

I'm just happy that the car is sorted, we did an oil change (Mobil1), checked the gearbox oil level, a few other small jobs and now the car is ready for my wife and I's trip around Wales in a weeks time.....happy days...

That mileage thing is interesting....in theory if you "lost" the paperwork and wound the clock back to say 40k miles, would a car be worth more, all other things being equal?

I'm not a big fan of low mileage cars...to me they are worth less money with a multitude of problems about to hit any unsuspecting buyer who plans to actually use the car for what it's built for...driving....

It's always the people with the leggy cars that say this, same as saying the earlier cars don't rot like the later cars. My 91 turbo has never needed welding or rebuilding. I'd pick a dry use 2nd or 3rd car that has been used and serviced properly over one that's done 30 winters and been used in city traffic.

Got my wheels back after a refurb for the S2 then a new windscreen washer pump landed all to be fitted tomorow, S2 sold and off to London, sold to fund a BMW 330i M Touring that I have been after for a couple of years, it has got me thinking about selling it.

I have my 944 Turbo to keep me going though

A well maintained 'leggy' car as you call it IMHO will always be a better buy than a rarely used no legs car...unless your buying purely to speculate. Mileage means nothing on a Porsche, ok my own car has a fair few miles on it, still well under average for 30 years. They are good miles and it's maintained to a very high standard, not to mention that it has probably the freshest 944T engine out there with just over 7k on the clock, an engine I might add that gives it true supercar performance. I'd bet that any potential buyer who drove it compared to most others out there would pick it first..

repairs to my bodywork have been well documented on this forum, actually most of the problem began when the car was laid up for 4 years, she lives on the drive, no garage.....there is one bit left on the front n/s wing that needs my attention, in fact I had hoped to get it fixed 2 weeks ago but my son's man was away at some world championships (for bodywork) and my other guy had no time. btw this damage was caused over 10 years ago when hitting debris in the road.....a sign of just how good the original anti-corrosion was on this car.
