Washer Woes!

Both my screen washer and both headlight washers don't work. Is this a common fault. Could it possibly just be a relay issue?

might be that there are blocked , try detaching the hose from the nozzle and see if the motor jet out water when switching the windscreen washer on ...if its does then just unblock the jet nozzle .

if you have no power to the motor then maybe relay

My headlamp ones dont seem to work dont care but I heard it may be an MOT fail if fitted and dont work.

there doesn't appear to be any wurring noise from the motor when you press the washer stalk forward. I'll try disconnecting the pipe. I can get a replacement relay for £15, I think its the G15 one.

More likely the motor/pump has burnt out, people don't know to stop using them when frozen or out of water. Don't cost a lot to replace just make sure you get the right one as they differ through the years.

You have heard incorrectly. That applies only to vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge
(HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps, as it applies also to the associated self-levelling function that usually accompanies such lamps.

Hi.
First check you are getting power to the pump connection, which is the one at the front of the water bottle, the one on the engine side is the headlight washers. I wouldn't worry too much about that at this stage. If you have power when the switch is operated your pump could be rusted solid if it hasn't been used for a long lime. Remove it Ha Ha have fun. You don't say what model you have but on the turbo/S2 remove the front under trays then you can push out the motor from underneath with a long screwdriver. The motor can be stripped down to its component parts, mine was rusted solid, some WD40 and some fine emery will clean everthing up. Bench test it first and hopfully it will spin up. Replacing is not quite as simple. Undo the bottle securing bolts and lift the bottle up as high as it will go then with a bit of pushing and swearing you should be able to get the motor back in the bottle. Good Luck[:D]

Had a feeling that may be the case, glad I don't need to fix them, one less job to do !

Had the same, was the pump. Happened 3 days before my MOT retest and Porsche didn't have any so had to pay over the odds, but then only £39 I think. Being a 2.5 it took all of 3 seconds to change, and most of that was getting it out of the bag [:D]

on my 86 oval dash I took the pump apart cleaned reassembled and it worked fine. On my 90 coupe the motor is sealed and wont come apart, I replaced with an astra GTE one I had lying around (early Mk2). Motor was a bit shorter but it worked fine.

Michael, did you get the motor fixed ? the front headligh washers will ONLY work when the headlights are in the raised position & there are two motors, one for the headlights & a separate one for the winscreen, the windscreen one may be goosed, but the headlight one may be ok, let me know mate, Jinxy
