My headlamp ones dont seem to work dont care but I heard it may be an MOT fail if fitted and dont work.
You have heard incorrectly. That applies only to vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge
(HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps, as it applies also to the associated self-levelling function that usually accompanies such lamps.

First check you are getting power to the pump connection, which is the one at the front of the water bottle, the one on the engine side is the headlight washers. I wouldn't worry too much about that at this stage. If you have power when the switch is operated your pump could be rusted solid if it hasn't been used for a long lime. Remove it Ha Ha have fun. You don't say what model you have but on the turbo/S2 remove the front under trays then you can push out the motor from underneath with a long screwdriver. The motor can be stripped down to its component parts, mine was rusted solid, some WD40 and some fine emery will clean everthing up. Bench test it first and hopfully it will spin up. Replacing is not quite as simple. Undo the bottle securing bolts and lift the bottle up as high as it will go then with a bit of pushing and swearing you should be able to get the motor back in the bottle. Good Luck[

Had a feeling that may be the case, glad I don't need to fix them, one less job to do !
