Tyres again Availability

So, the Tomket's on the front lasted 20 miles before I deemed them unfit for purpose. Transformed the car in a bad way, lesson learned, yes you told me so! Ironically my last set of Bing Bong Ling Long's (copyright Eldavo) on the front axle, West Lake SA-57's, were actually very good in comparison and lasted 4 years! Anyway, got a pair of Falken ZIE 310's fitted and it's night and day. These were a couple of quid shy of Ā£100 each from Camskill. Premium all the way now........... :p

I can report that the Nankang Sportnex AS-2+ on the rear axle, are actually pretty good. They look and feel like a premium tyre, and at over Ā£100 each they should do. Nankang have upped their game, and their prices!

Anyway, for sale - 2 almost new Bing Bong Ling Long 225/50/16. Ideal for drivers who don't turn corners and don't go out in the wet. Ā£1 ono (returns not accepted)

Nankang have upped their game (and price) for sure - the annoying thing is their inconsistency across the range. I really rate the NS2-R as an arrive and drive trackday/summer tyre, the AR1 is amazing on track and the upcoming CR-S did really well in a Tegiwa group test but some of their older more pedestrian range is still rather poor.

Oh dear, those were the Falkens that split both the front inner sidewalls on our 2014 Fiesta ST. Fortunately an MOT fell due, before they suffered a blowout. Plenty of tread on them, and the outer sidewalls looked fine. It was around 2 years ago, so perhaps they're better now.

These are a new model only recently out tail end of last year. Hopefully those issues were addressed. I will keep an eye on them, cheers.

Good to hear, the Sportnex AS-2+ range is quite new and they do look and feel like a proper premium tyre. Haven't gone mad so far but wet and dry grip has been faultless.

From Tyre Reviews:

  • Overall - The Nankang Sportnex AS-2+ punched above its price category, beating the more established brands of Kumho and Toyo. The tyre might not have been the most dynamic in the dry, but it performed well in all the wet testing and had good levels of comfort, low noise, and low rolling resistance. The AS2+ does seem more comfort than performance bias, but it's still an impressive set of results for the price point.
Ideal for Scotland!

After weeks of maneuvering, Falken eventually sent one of their approved fitters to fit 2 new tyres. Not long after I saw advertising, that they were a new supplier to Audi. So I guess they've been updated.

Watching this with interest as I know I need 4 more this year. As you found preliminary investiagtioon showed large gaps in the market and I couldn't replace like for lie with the Toyos currently there. Shame really as they have been fine.
I found dingdonglinglong ditchfinders or Ā£250 p4s I think. Somewhere in between is the preferred area!

It's been nearly 4 years, but the last set of 18" N rated PS2's I had fitted cost around Ā£600. I'll need a couple of 19" Conti's on my Cupra soon, and they're around Ā£170 each last time I checked.

I'm happy now with comfort, ride and performance with the Falkens on the front and the Nankangs on the back.

Roughly Ā£100 a corner, best prices are Black Circles for the Nankang Sportnex AS-2+ (rear) and Camskill for the Falken ZIE 310's (front).

The new Nankangs are definitely lower end premium rather than cheap Chinese budget tyres. They look and feel like a premium tyre and the reviews back this up.

I had annoying slow punctures in both rears, so had a pair of these RoadX Motion tyres fitted - Ā£122 for both.

Budget tyres with a V rating is all I need, so happy with that price, although just before Christmas they would have Ā£108 fitted for the pair.

For comparison purposes in the last six months Iā€™ve replaced all four corners on my S2, with Kumho Ecsta HS51 R16 from Blackcircles, for about Ā£90 a corner. Perfectly adequate for my particular needs but would acknowledge that it is getting a lot more difficult to find matching sets. If I was looking now I would be going with Avon ZV7, Iā€™ve had them previously on a daily and prefer them to Falkens (softer sidewalls) but otherwise similar.
Again, my Boxster 2.9 is shod with Michelin PS2, 18ā€™s so a recent set of replacements for the rear on that came in at Ā£420.
Horses for courses or whatever:confused:

Googled them for a giggle, what a load of rubbish.

What exactly are your requirements?

As I said in a previous post, my requirement was to address two annoyingly slow punctures.

I have no desire to drive like a Top Gun, my intention is to create a tatty sleeper, taking full advantage of it's Historic Tax and MOT exemption.

Half a can of Tyreweld stopped the slow leaks on the old tyres, on my Audi. And Top Gun is about flying not driving, though perhaps you will be jumping some ditches soon...

ā€œMod hat onā€ - Play nice, not everyoneā€™s wants/needs/budgets are the same.

My old 2.7 had Nankang NS2 tyres on it and in the wet it was great fun on roundabouts at relatively low speeds. I once ā€œparkedā€ it on a banking on a wet country road (but nothing damaged other than my pride) - in the dry it was ok though.
