Edd, You are right, quality over quantity wins every time but my car gets used only 3 or 4 months of the summer every year so fitting real expensive tyres that might decay quicker than wear out, doesn't make financial sense to me. I'm not adverse to putting the best on my car's, even my 1975 Beetle has the best of Pirelli all round! As I stated to Paul(Diver944), my main concern fitting wider tyres would degrade ride quality in which Paul has confirmed didn't but improved traction with ride unchanged.
