Turbo or S2

Sorry Stevie didn't mean to patronize you it's just that we get a Turbo v's S2 question all the time on here.All I am trying to say is that it's not as important which model you buy as long as you buy a good one.After all they are all good in their own way.
Personally I prefer the S2 although it could do with a bit more power ( but I'll fix that with a lot of head work, throttle bodies and a stand alone ecu)
If i was looking again I would be checking the sills in and out.( camera in vent in door pillar) floor especially at the front and along the sill. Rear lower panel and the huge voids behind it.( panel above exhaust/ spoiler and if you lie on the ground with your feet out the back and look up in behind the bumper and rear panel.Also bottom of front wings,front of roof under windscreen seal, under cover between windscreen and engine bay esp on the corners.shelf that the abs pump sits on. Bottom of rear storage wells at side of boot under the carpet and under the battery.bottom edge of inner wing behind bottom of front wing.

No offence taken colin this topic has been very interesting since it started, some of the different views, knowledge and general banter is what this form should be about in my opinion and I have taken so much from it thanks to the input from everyone
We all have one thing in common here we are all very passionate about our cars thats why we are on here writing about the one we think is best and why we think its best, if we all agreed on the same things this form would not exist.
My 944 lux did not have a lot of the above wrong maybe sills, botom of the wings looked a bit iffy but generally it was fine,

A lot depends on the price of the car and whether you like or want it. Sure, this sounds obvious but, as an example, there have been discussions on here before where would be buyers would not want to buy an otherwise good car because the belts were due!

It sounds like you have lots of experience however. Having owned and driven both an s2 and turbo at the same time, I'd suggest you buy BOTH. However, the Turbo edges it for me as it has the extra factor and a minimal laggy turbo around town didn't feel that different to my s2.

Love to buy both but both my wife and bank manager might be a sizeable hurdle!! As far as experience is concerned I think I would call it age coupled with some experience of buying dud's that's why I started this topic [:D]
do you still have both cars??
 
With a quick visit to promax,all the terrible lag everyone goes on about is reduced and becomes alot of fun as it comes on boost,they are not difficult to drive either must say with an LSD(which later turbos have as standard) it becomes far easier in my opinion as one wheel doesnt suddenly light up.
 
I completely agree with Mark - maybe some of the cars out there need a rebuilt LSD?

helps if you like changing gears (its a sports car, shouldn't that be part of the territory?), and you have to acknowledge you will be one or 2 gears lower than in other modern cars - a combination of the long gearing and the lazyiness until it has some boost. It is harder work than a modern car, noisier, heavier brakes, clutch, steering etc. but it is relatively modern compared to much from the era, I did 25,000 miles one year in my coupe, all weathers all traffic conditions find it excellent for long journeys and short, didn't feel like a hero afterwards!
Boost is great for overtaking on A and B roads. A high 200 BHP turbo is easy, cheap and reliable and a performance step above an S2 (sorry Oli!)

I had a diff rebuilt in the early nineties, when I was young, dumb and full of money. The parts cost was fierce and from memory, the replacement parts part numbers all began 917!
