sunroof problem

Member
i've had my sun roof out today (very brave) but when i put it back in the drivers side rear corner doesnt go right down when closed - it sticks up about half an inch. Other side is ok

is this something i can fix myself? If so does anyone know how ??

thanks

Do you have the ignition on?
To retract the arms (releasing the panel) the ignition needs to be at position 1. To raise & lower the roof you need to have the ignition at 2 (lights on on in the dash). Activating the central locking should make the roof lock too if the panel has been released.

Lots of possible problems with the sunroof mechanism, both mechanical & electrical. I'd have a look on Clarkes Garage.

Thanks very much I am new to 944's so there may be a few stupid questions that I need answering. The sunroof is now sorted panic over.

While I am at it I have another question,I have just bought a 944 s2,G172 WAR . On the log book it states that it is a cabrio.I have all the paper work invoices and checks up untill 1999 when the last owner bought it and used it occasionally as he was a collector that says it is a genuine car.So is the cabrio bit on the log book a mistake or is there another reason ?

ORIGINAL: dodgydal

On the log book it states that it is a cabrio.

It's a common error by the DVLA [8|]

My own coupe is listed as a Cabrio and many people apparently own a Turbo Lux (no such thing) while a few S2 owners are listed as an S

or a lot of us are driving cut n shuts []

Sounds like the microswitches are out of adjustment and causing the arms to retract down into the roof instead of holding it shut. There is a good guide on sunroof setup in the 'Manual' section of www.clarks-garage.com

I have same problem and just close the roof so that it secures it.
I would be intrested in any advice from anybody who has adjusted the switches please.

Exactly the same prob here too lads, my arms never stop in the locked position, go straight back into the roof [:D]

I'm gonna print out the (daunting..?!) Clarkes Guide and go through everything when I get a day off.

Also, my arms only ever move with the ignition fully on. Pretty sure they should only retract etc in position one.

Check the plastic gears have all of their teeth, mine did the same poped up while driving down the motorway, scared the living daylights out of me, after a little look one of the plastic gears inside was missing a load of teeth so it could move while shut if it was in the wrong place.

Hopefully will get chance to sort it this week given some fine weather. the streo is a replacement unit so suspect the fitter wasn't aware of the power supply issue, will look into that as suggested.

Yes there is the sunroof can be wound down manually. The motor is in the boot on the left behind the carpet. The big nut you can see will wind it back down (provided that the cable is ok, which it sounds like it aint). It is driven from the motor via a cable and gearboxes or plastic worm drives depending on the age of your your car. Mine is knackered at the mo. Have a new cable to fit. A good place to start is www.clarks-garage.com for anything to do with your 944 including your sunroof. If you remove the cable just make sure you lock the sunroof down with the legs to raise and lower it. Once you get into the job you will know what I mean lol.

Hi Elliot

Hope you had a good holiday!

If you want to drop round we could have a good look at it - maybe go and see the S2 rount the corner, see how it should work.

Mike

Thanks Rob i will have a look at the weekend then and see if i need to replace this cable, if not could it be the gears or rails?
