Has anyone got any experience of recovering a steering wheel? If so where did you get the cover and how good a result did you get. My steering wheel is blue and the stitching is a bit shabby but I want to keep it as I dont really like aftermarket wheels.

There is a company in the US who make complete steering wheel refurb kits and come with needle and thread. For the life of me, I can't remember their name. They also make nice gearlever gaters as well.

Colin,
I went to a yacht chandlers and got heavy duty thread for mending sails. Apparently you can use denim thread as well as it's the heaviest duty thread available in normal sewing shops. Also at the chandlers I got a heavy duty needle. The important thing about the needle is that it is a curved needle.

It was pretty easy to do and I'm happy with the results. You will stab yourself with the needle multiple times though![:D]

...and hold it in a small Black & Decker-type workbench [;)]

My girlfriend used to sew them for me and the 'extra hand' more than halved the time each wheel took.

This is an AGLA kit;
