Squeak brakes poll

Porsche Cambridge have tried to stop my brakes squealing at low speed. It’s not worked and it’s going to drive me mad. I would like to find out how many others have this issue. My car is a 991.1c4s standard brakes, car has done 35k.

I am weighing up my options but I really don’t think I can keep a £66k car with squeaky brakes for 2/3 years!!

Any opinion/experience with this issue greatly appreciated!

thanks

Rhys

911 brakes tend to squeal intermittently - it a characteristic of materials used.

It was not so much of a problem when pads contained asbestos, but once this was banned and more metal content introduced, it tended to increase noise in high performance brakes. However, many consider it better to have brake squeal than brake fade. [&:]

Brakes often clean themselves up after a number of hard applications, so try heavy braking from high speed several times until the brakes start to smell hot, then let them cool naturally.

Dust, corrosion, contaminated/worn rotors, runout, misaligned pads and/or, callipers, worn/bent shims can all be contributing factors. With 35k on the clock, it might be worth replacing rotors and pads etc.

I'd be surprised if this didn't resolve it. [:)]

Clive

991.2 C4 GTS - 11k miles - brakes squeal like a pig, although Porsche Chester said there's no noise :) Tried the hard breaking thing a few times, had no effect on mine anyway. Also no correlation with wet/dry, cold/warm ambient temp, whether the brakes are cold/warm/hot, etc
Really is a pain in the a**

991.2 Targa 4 GTS - My (PCCB) brakes squeal intermittently at relatively low speeds also. It is more noticeable when the top is down (unsurprisingly).

I saw the previous posts about trying to cure this by a few hard applications at high speed but given I recently had a session at Millbrook which included a number of emergency stops from 60/70 mph (some with ABS, some without), I can attest that this does not necessarily work.

I mentioned it to my local OPC prior when the car was booked in for a recent service and they just shrugged and referred me onto the Porsche YouTube video about the topic.

I agree it’s a pain and pretty disappointing but seemingly not something that is easy to overcome...

My car is almost identical to yours - 991.1 C4S 2014 with 34k miles on S brakes. I've owned it for the past 3 years and the brakes have never squeaked. It must be said that my driving style means I'm very light on the brakes and to avoid the polishing effect resulting from this I deliberately use them very hard every now and again. The car is on its original pads and discs and according the the most recent check there's still plenty of life in both materials.
