I have noticed on the speed limit indicator when driving along on a smart motorway the camera picks up the variable speed limit overhead gantry indicators and displays the correct speed. However when the national speed limit sign appears (the white circle with line through) on the overhead gantry it does not pick up and the speed indicator remains displaying the last variable speed limit.

In all seriousness, this is a known issue pretty much all the camera Speed limit systems, because its all "one colour"

Huw, on my way to the Channel Tunnel last week my Camera Based Speed Limit Indicator registered the reduced limit changes on the M25 and M20 and back to 70mph. It also worked fine in France and Switzerland recognising temporary limits and reverting back to the national limits when the camera recognised the white circle with black diagonal.cymro said:I have noticed on the speed limit indicator when driving along on a smart motorway the camera picks up the variable speed limit overhead gantry indicators and displays the correct speed. Thanks Adrian, I will keep an eye on it. It was on the M4 I noticed it at the tunnel in Newport.BigCat said:Huw, on my way to the Channel Tunnel last week my Camera Based Speed Limit Indicator registered the reduced limit changes on the M25 and M20 and back to 70mph.
