i think my rear shocks are on the way out, just wondered if spax adjustables are any good for my 1986 lux
cheers
Dave

ha ha yeah, should have put the car into 4x4 mode !!
mind you your drive is silky smooth compared to the lanes were i live

Previously Id have said 'not bad', but the trouble that Andy Watson has had with his rear coil over adjustables leads me to say 'best avoided' now...

Hi Dave,

To be fair the rear shocks without the coilovers are ok and the front struts have been no problem, the price is reflected in quality as with everything in life, having said that I would not personally buy Spax products again.

Most shocks will be better than 20 year old dampers with many miles on them :).

I have had Spax on two cars with no real issues at all (a Triumph Spitfire and an MGB GT), but even I must say that KYB do not seem to be that bad (they were great on the few cars I have driven with them on from a bang per buck perspective), possibly an edge over the Spax items (I would not say they are terrible though). Stock Sachs dampers would be my choice though :).

Thanks fpr the replies
Ordered some kybs, hopefully should be here before the weekend.
Took one of the old ones of last night and it was completely f*****
So looking forward to fitting the new ones.

I'm very happy with my Spax but the I was a cheapskate and decided not to go for the full coilover kit.

Hi Lacedr, Silly question but how did you know they were shagged before taking off the car? I'm pretty sure my turbo is on original rears and wondering if 25 years is maybe a good time to change them? Where did you get the kybs by the way?

Craig

Edit - just checked and mine were replaced in 2001 so still may be due repair. Funny how shagged did not make it past filter - wonder if knackered will?

Had you tried the link I posted? I dont believe that Kayaba make Turbo/S2/968 fitment, though.

Thanks Simon - I missed the link but have now tried it and you're right - they don't do Turbo. Any suggestions for Tubro rears? Standard and don't need the whole coilover saga. Just think mine are due replacement..

Theyve all doubled in price over the last five or so years. Id go for Bilstein over Konis, I think. Better suited and better longevity.

spirited driving on a long right hand bend could feel the car getting a bit lively at the back.
when i got home i did a bounce test on the front of the car and then on the back and noticed that it was not quite as firm at the back, the took one off to check and hey presto
