Some Advice Please Guys & Gals, with this COVID19 and we cant drive

..and this chilling bit from the Government's Recovery Strategy paper,

"This is not a short-term crisis. It is likely that COVID-19 will circulate in the human population long-term, possibly causing periodic epidemics. In the near future, large epidemic waves cannot be excluded without continuing some measures."

Yes quite. I wouldn't want to see any of the measures around state surveillance and data use (e.g. the contact tracing app) that *might* be necessary to control the epidemic short term to continue for one second longer than they have to, but I would lay a large bet that they will be exactly the measures that do...

But soonish we will have the tools to deal with this evil act of nature, vaccines, hospital techniques and resources, these events come along to test the human race, this one is particularly hard and sudden and we generally were not prepared, and we are not alone.

On a MUCH BRIGHTER side, as of tomorrow we can drive our cars, a distance, to any open spot.

Obviously, there needs to be care, you don't even actually need a destination to get out of the safe car at, no toilets etc, so range will be limited, but a good hour or so's drive out to the open world.

Take a picnic!

We will drive about 15 miles tomorrow without fear of police or recriminations, take a stroll and scoot back, will do the Boxster a world of good let alone me and mine.

Any you can do it day after too!

Just watch fuel prices soar!

Hi Ray,

Couldn’t get that link to work but there is some obvious flexibility in the regulations for driving to open spaces, irrespective of distance, for your “wellbeing”:

b)to take exercise—

(i)alone,

(ii)with one or more members of their household, or

(iii)with one member of another household;]

[F13(ba)to visit a public open space for the purposes of open-air recreation to promote their physical or mental health or emotional wellbeing—

(i)alone,

(ii)with one or more members of their household, or

(iii)with one member of another household;]

I’m sure our ’mental health .. and .. emotional wellbeing’ could do with a quick blast to some open space!!

At the end of the day a healthy dose of Common Sense is required.

For my emotional wellbeing all three of our Porsches got some well needed exercise over the weekend as did I. One lives at our house, the other two socially distanced across the other side of London. It was the first time we had been South of the river since lockdown. Both were recommissioned and driven, no snags but will need a post lockdown bath in the near future. I just need a haircut!

I’ve cut my own hair a couple of times now, Nick (using beard trimmer and scissors - all I have) - took a while, but very satisfying when achieved... not just a ‘no.1’ cop-out either - give it a go [8D]... just set up the mirrors and take it slowly and you’re away :ROFLMAO:

Can't wait for barbers or hairdressers to open.

I so need a haircut, but I like my ears! Ed has offered to cut it but there are things that a wife should not be allowed to do, washing the cars is another.

Having been 20 plus years in the RAF my hair has never been long, until now. Long hair is not a look that I intend to keep. The good news it still grows!

Nick

Seriously, Nick, try it yourself... your hair is straight like mine, give it a go - it really is simple if you take it slowly.

Without a picture? Need the Custard Test :ROFLMAO:

I think we should all see Paul's 'attempt' first [:D]

Well Paul, I’m impressed. I had a tentative attempt this morning - no way!

How do you get round the problem of your hand wanting to go the wrong way when you are looking in a mirror?

I’ve still got some flared jeans from the 70’s. Think I’ll dig them out and listen to some Boz Scaggs!

Agreed Gordon. A YouTube video of Paul's technique would be very helpful.!

I'm left-handed (but have some right-handed hairdressing scissors!), wear glasses and have a slight sight impediment in my right eye, all of which makes any attempt at self-hairdressing challenging to say the least. I'm interested to know how Paul has tackled the back - for me it's akin to trying to reverse a van without the assistance of mirrors, rear parking sensors and camera???

No matter how long I have to wait, I've decided to leave the task to the professionals. Mind you, with all the pent-up demand who knows when that will be?

Jeff

Jeff,

I wear glasses and cut my own without them on. The results are staggeringly bad but I dont care.

Actually I use two different lenght clipper attachments. All over with the longest then using the shorter attachment for the back and finally none for around the ears.

Have a go it will re-grow, in time. In the meantime you may consider buying a wig as protection. I understand there are some very good ones.

Not easy - but like I said take your time and you can do it - honest... just need to ‘train your brain’.

I used to have many ‘Loons’ (great cotton flares, just £2.50 each) which I bought from Kensington High Street market in the 70’s [8D]... my hair was much longer then[:D]

It was bad enough contemplating cutting my own hair, but when my wife suggested I have a go at hers I promptly hid every pair of scissors in the house. This could end badly, very badly.
