RSR Exhausts

A topic of conversation earlier this year on Titanic forum, was RSR exhausts. These offer no power gain, just a lovely deep sound. The RSR's are a modified standard box. A fellow 993 owner recently took off his boxes, cut them open to have a look inside and see what could be done to reduce some of the silencing. He removed the 'wire wool' wrapping off the perforated section of the pipe, and reassembled and welded them back up. Back on the car, the sound is .......... exactly the same!
So does anyone know or have experience in modyfing the internal organs of rear boxs - second to just putting a by-pass pipe between the inlet and outlet!
Cheers

Ahh that's too easy![:D] There is always a sense of adventure when doing R&D work! [&:] Plus I have access to a plasm cutter and TIG welder! That's why[;)]

Well I'm not averse to some DIY myself, and compared with some aftermarket exhaust prices, getting the welder out is a definate money saver. However, my point (which wasn't really explained) was that at 400 euros.... it's hard to do the job cheaper by the time you've messed about experimenting how to get the right sound.... that's all!

Good decision mate!

The other evening I left my pals house, it was very quiet night with no wind... My pal rang me when I got home, and said he could hear my car going down the lanes for about 5 miles! Not some horrible 2 stroke bike-like din, but just a fantastic engine note just gradually disappearing into the distance.... he said the car sounded bladdy brilliant whereas before he'd never really noticed it!

How old are we!!!!!!

Anyone know if RSR's are compatible with the 3.8 engine? I've got a 993 RS and wouldn't mind it being a little more vocal, but I read recently in 911 & Porsche World that the 3.8 has different (more restrictive) silencer internals to the 3.6 silencer.

Thanks

Nigel

Thanks Maurice

I think I'll leave them alone, as then I can't muck things up, plus it has the benefit of being the lowest cost option!

[:D]Fitted the RSR exhaust boxes this afternoon - it was a piece of cake to do and now the car sounds like a Porsche should![8D][8D].
Even allowed fellow 993 owner (Roy) to have a drive - whilst I wasn't in the car[]! Full power FLY BY - True Top Gun style LOVELY.

Glad you're happy with them... one of the best value mods available in my opinion, and as you say... makes a 'proper' Porsche sound....

Can't recommend them enough!
