A spare set of specs if you wear them, legal requirement in France. I’ve never been asked but….

Road trip prep - what have I forgotten?

We are doing a similar trip to Nice in a few weeks time. Would be good to hear how your route works out. Last year we found France no longer requires you to have a breathalyser (good as ours were out of date). The tax disc holder for CritAir is a good idea. As an alternative I use ‘Sticker Shield’ a peel off and re-use sheet that you cut to size. Made in USA and bought from Amazon. Also worth taking a couple of copies of the motor vehicle accident form (available from AA website and others). Need ‘UK’ oval badge on back unless your number plate includes this. Also can you switch your headlights over or do you need to mask them for driving on rhs of road? You are supposed the be able to pre-enter details for the EES up to 3 days before travelling and I thought we would give it a go. Wishing you a great trip.

We're travelling last week of May. Car's going in for a service and a check over next week so fingers crossed they don't find any showstoppers. Or nothing that means I have to remortgage the house, at least.
Sounds great, would you mind sharing the route and the timescales as thinking of doing that region later this year!

The AA and the RAC have a good list of bare essentials and more on their web sites.
We have found having certain items in the 'right places' is good!
ie torch in driver's door pocket.
As said above, good large scale maps, plan well ahead.

Mrs G not mad keen on being hurled around on bendy roads so she's flying down and meeting me in Nice. I want the drive down to be reasonably stress-free, however, so I'll be taking it easy (at first
- Friday: UK to Reims (with an excursion to the old grand prix track for obligatory pics)
- Saturday: autoroute cruise Reims to Grenoble
- Sunday: Grenoble to Nice via N85 Route Napoleon. I'm going to miss out the dull bit that goes through Sisteron, however, and instead follow the D900/B Route de Grenoble from Gap to Digne les Bains via Montclar. I'll also miss out the congested bottom bit of the N85 around Grasse and instead divert onto the D2 before Le Logis du Pin, dropping down into Nice that way.
A few days knocking about the Riviera then the reverse route back to Grenoble and on to Lake Annecy for an overnight. Mrs G will be with me for the drive home so, again, we're taking it easy with overnights in Beaune and Troyes before hitting Calais. I expect mostly autoroute cruising but will play it by ear and see what comes up.
