Hi Guys

I am having a new clutch fitted to my beautiful 996 in the next week or two, as the labour for this is high £1k with clutch etc, I would like comments on other work to do at the same time, as the gearbox is off, at the moment my 996 is bone dry from the RMS area, however would it pay to change the RMS at the same time, or leave well alone, also any thoughts on the IMS, are there any good repairs or mods to do to save problems in later life?

Personally YES I would do the IMS the RMS i think they sometimes just leak because cars have sat for some time and just dry out.

But for whilst in the area I would do the IMS.

Can I ask where you are and where your getting it done?

I think Richard is referring to the LN IMS bearing replacement, and if it was me, I would go the whole hog and get it done, especially if I planned to keep the car for a while. AFAIK, Autofarm have an exclusive on this. Details and prices here: http://www.autofarm.co.uk/engines/water_cooled/shaft_tech2

Hi Richard, RPM also use LN Engineering products. I think the main guy is called Ollie. Thanks Roy

Not to offend, But Its not a matter of getting it checked the oem bearing is just not up to the job.
If your having work done that means separating the trans replace.

@Andrew do you still have the 73 Corvette?

Looks loverly m8 can we have some more pics in a new thread?.

I have decided to have the IMS work carried out by Auto Farm, around £1600, it does seem silly to not go into it when the box is off. After that it should be pretty worry free

Thanks for the advice

Update guys,

Had the clutch, RMS, IMS bearing all changed at Auto Farm on Monday, the found the slave cylinder faulty and the Lambada sensors, but the real shocker was the state of the bearing, I had no oil leaks, no noise and the bearing was about to fail. If you have the finances to do this job, DO IT! Auto Farm are really excellent!

The oil and filter were changed, in the bottom of the can was the beginnings of metal flake, but very very slight, this is about the only warning you get!
