Recommendations for timing belt and water pump parts suppliers

Hi all, my 1986 944 2.5 has just passed its MOT and I want to get it back on the road!

However, it has a coolant leak and the cambelt and water pump change is long overdue (last documented parts bought in 2012 and ‘check cambelt fitment’ in 2013. Service history is…patchy.

I’m planning to get the full timing belt service including water pump.

Can anyone recommend trusted UK suppliers (OEM or reputable aftermarket) for the whole kit - belts, tensioners/rollers, pump etc please. Specific to 2.5 1986 model.

Thank you!

I think most of the guys buy the parts individually so that you can purchase your preferred brand at the best price. Geba water pumps are fine, and you want INA pulleys and probably Gates / Dayco for the belts. Let me know if you want the part numbers.

Best place I've found for the pulleys and belts is eBay, usually from suppliers like "Parts In Motion", also worth checking Autodoc as they sometime have very good pricing and their delivery has gotten quicker recently.

There are a few offering "kits", like Shrivecars on eBay, Design 911, and Rare Porsche Parts, but you might pay a premium vs getting the individual parts yourself.

My turbo hasn't had a water pump in 17 years/25k miles. But the 3 cambelts were all tensioned by twisting the waterpump pulley method. Always worth trying a friendly Porsche center first, as some of the usual suspects are just adding their margin on to what they've paid Porsche.

Thank you both. Found most of the individual parts on autodoc.

One issue I have is working out whether I have an older or newer style water pump (no evidence of it being changed in history but it’s limited). This is what is leaking. From what I’ve read, 86 seems to be cross over year where it could be either? Also accessing it to check looks fiddly for a complete beginner at car diy.

I can get local independent garage to confirm as they are doing other work otherwise I’m just holding off buying bits until then.

Thinking I could get newer style pump and all matching belts, rollers etc. to go with it. Thoughts?
