Re Porsche Silverstone Driving Day

Hi Guys

i'm thinking of booking a driving day at Porsche Silverstone and debating whether to use my own car or pay extra and hire one to avoid any wear and tear on my own car.

i have recently bought a 991 GTS and whilst I've had a bit of on road instruction from a Police Instructor really want to explore the limits of the car in a safer environment. I don't really want to go through a set of tyres and pads though and not sure how 'intensive' the Porsche driving day would be on the car.

my preference is to use my own car to really get to know its limits a little more but would welcome any views from people who have used their own cars or hired.

id probably go for the half day session to start with.

great forum by the way and for anyone thinking of a 991, for me it's the best yet having owned a 996 C4S, 997 GTS and now the 991 GTS.

FWIW I'd use my own car, if the idea is to get to know it better. I've done it before and the instructor will give you all the help you need to explore the limits in a relatively safe environment. You won't wear the tyres or brakes that much, maybe feathering the tyre edges a bit, but nothing significant in a half day. The instructor will understand your concerns about your own car and plan what you do accordingly. If you want to hoon around and do launches and donuts, then maybe not.
 
If you bought your car from a Porsche Centre, didn't they offer you a half day free on a similar car at the Porsche Experience Centre? Methinks they should have done....
 
Nope got a bit of a discount and a pretty good part ex for my 997 GTS but no driving day.

i think I'll go ahead and book the days course using my own 991 GTS as the course seems to have some great reviews.
 
I have done the Precision course twice- the first time in my 997 GT3 and last month in my 991 GTS - there is no reason why you'd hire another 911 - the courses are designed for you to get the best out your 911 and the instructor's manage the work load your car takes - 911's are designed for this type of use and you will not regret using your GTS - it really lived up to and beyond my expectations- enjoy!
 



Good choice, the whole point is to get to know your own car. You have set up seating position (up to 18 adjustments), mirrors, steering wheel position etc. You can drive to your own limits which will probably be more gentle in your own car than thrashing someone else's.

If you haven't tried any yet Track Days are the next step!

i spent this morning on a porsche experience at silverstone - what a great day and highly recommended - opted for using one of their cars, 991 PDK, as i wouldnt worry quite so much about caning it and spinning it (i did that twice on the skid pan with driver aids turned off)

taught me a lot about 911 car control and gave me a bit more confidence for taking mine to Goodwood on Monday for my first track day in it
