Porsche 944 Turbo S - Silver Rose - 2 for sale on ebay ......

Assuming any buyer knows what they are buying, the car is sensibly priced and they understand the implications of the required work then - no problem. If it's the sills, then it is only metal at the day.

2 years ago I bought a cheap '91 Turbo. Spent £2700 on a major service, new sills, wheel refurb, lower rear quarter repair, seat repair. Used the car for 6 months and then sold it for £5750. Essentially I more or less broke even, learned about the repairs and enjoyed the car for a while.

You may be correct, I'm not sure but come on most folk would sell the LSD for £650 alone on such a car! £750 would be a huge bargain price all day long, every day?

it's not so much rough as a real oddity. lovely interior, spotless engine bay, just lots of rust. who knows what you will find when it is stripped down?

the turbo s doesn't really command much of a premium does it? and is less rare than a pre abs turbo now I think.

I think the sunroof delete is perceived by many as a nice 'feature'. ? Rare on a pre abs turbo. I do agree with much of what you are saying. I wanted a sunroof delete (almost had the one for less than £3k that is being sold for £13k on pistonheads).

It's a strange one. I have a white Turbo S with black sports interior. I'd actually prefer silver rose with burgundy interior! I really like the burgundy interior colours. Especially pinstripe.

I actually *have* a burgundy pinstripe interior, and love it (in a late white 250). It's the seat upholstery on the Silver Rose that I don't like... looks too much like like golfing trousers to me. And the rather loud gear lever gaiter seems a bit... biological... somehow.

My project turbo is linen with burgundy pinstripe. I have had the refurbed sports seats sitting around my garage for 18 months now whilst the rest of the car is at Sulzeruk's garage!

The whole "classic" thing is a world unto itself, and the values don't always end up where common sense would expect them to.

I've recently been a bit scared off by the forum warriors, who laid in to me so much over my trying to point out where the £10K-plus cars are going to come from, and I really am a bit reluctant to comment on values as it seems there are a few people who just brand you as a "negative doomsayer" if you dare to suggest that not every 944 is automatically a fantastic bargain and worth millions. You have to look at the collector's market to value the rarer Porsches. Like it or not, the Silver Rose is a collector's car, so it attracts a premium. It has to be the Silver Rose, an identical car in a different colour just doesn't appeal to the limited market these cars sell to. I guess that there are a lot of buyers with serious collections, and serious money, who appreciate the 944; they want the most exclusive edition, and that's always going to be the most original Silver Rose.

Fascinating thread; both Silver Roses had crossed my radar as well, and I was looking for opinions too. The knowledge on here surrounding these cars is astounding.

Still toying with the idea of getting one; I think the interior is a riot, the rarity factor appeals and the sunroof delete makes the car feel more like a "coupe".

I'd spotted the 218k miles one, and you can see quite a bit of rust in the pics. General rule of thumb I tend to apply is that if you can see the rust in grainy, low-res advert pics, then in real life it must be quite something.

Glad to see you can take constructive debate regarding 944's so maturely.

Sorry, Paul, but I really am loathe to comment on values as it seems to get people attacking me. I think that a good Silver Rose is one of the safest bets for a future classic 944 and will be one of the few derivatives that will really appreciate in value. Edd asked the question, I answered it with my own opinion; the turbo s will be more "collectible" than other turbos and that makes it likely to hold a better value in the future.

I don't want to raise the whole debate again, but I don't understand why I'm "immature" for not enjoying getting pointless grief on forums from people I've often not even met! [&o]

I think last two S roses (gmund car and another one) went out to oz under pre 89 import rule.

I heard that too. The £8k car's journey was posted on PH I think.

Aus $ is strong at the moment so UK cars will look like bargains

Paul McN - I don't think Paul R was having a go...

You're right that Silver Rose cars will be collectors cars, but collectors want to buy the best, and value low mileage. The 218k car only becomes attractive when there aren't any others around for sale.

i think it comes down to condition but also the genuine low volume build cars which are unmolested from that era. Not many of these produced.

I'm more talking about the first car here; as you say, mileage and originality are valued by the buyers of the rare cars. That was kind of my point on the other thread! [&:]

Thanks for all the PMs, much appreciated. I am sensitive, I know, so apologies Paul if that wasn't meant to be having a pop at me. [:)]

I'll have a pop at you if you're felling left out Paul ;)

(Can I pretty please have a new PCGB and register sticker as the last ones went with the old car)

Awww, thanks mate! It's been a few hours! [:D][:D]

Was just working out that I dealt with something like 300 individual issues with the forum problems in January. That might have made me a bit grumpy....[&:]

I can do a register sticker if you mail me your address, 944@porscheclubgb.com, or I'll have some with me at Rutland and Bedford . Club ones are, I think, only available through the shop. I might be wrong, a call to the office and a bit of grovelling might just blag you a replacement.
