Pole Position Seats

I'm after a pair of Recaro ABE Pole Position seats that I intend to re-trim. Condition isn't that important but they would need to have complete foams and cushions. If anyone has a pair they wish to sell or know of any please let me know.

Thanks!
Edd

Haha, not really, my idea is to try and 'tastefully' get the car more motorsport oriented, bit like a 968CS but Porsche never did a 944CS (at least in any real numbers). They're pretty comfortable for a fixed back bucket seat the and take out 32kg's compared to the electric OEM's, when you've only got 200bhp every little counts[:)] (Awaits comments in the line of 'Why dont you just get a Turbo') Edd

Be patient lads, the car development trend could lead to a 3.0 turbo.......[8D] I like the 944CS idea, a nice subtle practical drivers car keep up the good work George 944t

I have them in my Turbo S and they are supberb [:D] you have to climb into them and no really suitable for larger gents, they don't come cheap, keep your old seats so that you can replace them should you sell, people will not pay a premium for the car if they are fitted and you are selling. Jim.

I was trying to buy some 18 months ago (when people had more disposable money!!) and couldn't get a pair of second hand ones under £650 and not in date!!! Ended up buying a pair of brand new Cobra Suzuka S' for £500!!! Although I really wanted and still want the Recaros, the Cobras were too good to miss. Really lock you into the car as well for track (more especially with my lardy arse) Good luck in your search

Exactly my reasoning for doing it, the S2 perhaps not being everyones choice but I like the power delivery of the n/a engine. I also think that you could get the S2 50-100kg lighter than the 968CS without striping out carpets + sound proofing, etc. Edd

The main problem is that Recaro have just put there prices up by 30+%! Standard seats that were £550 are now £645! Apparently Recaro now have a new parent company that has just revised all there prices and introduced this massive price increase for 2012, and just in time for me to need to buy some, b******ds. Funny you say that as its what I plan to do via Southbound. a la http://www.jzmporsche.com/porsche-Highly-Modified-993--for-sale--265.html# Although not cheap by any means, it does look the dogs danglies... Edd

Why not try and find a set of 968 CS seats. My apologies if they are the same as I don't really know about these things.

Colin, that is they ! same thing, Copperman, I was quoted £1k by southbound, we have a local guy just starting up and trying to build up a rep, he is doing a VW Transporter for a friend in Bentley Nappa quilt so i will see the end result, he is supposed to be good.

There is a used set on ebay for £1500 the pair, the CS seats are colour coded to the car so the backs are coloured too, in this case red. They could be repainted of course, I'd probably stick with black though as my car is gold! The CS seats are also cloth and I kinda like the leather RS seat style from the 964RS (but all black and without the coloured cushions). All are very similar to the Recaro pole positions, but with strengthened backs and other small peculiarities. Edd

CS seats were only available in black cloth, have ribbed backs for strengthening, coloured backs and bigger cushions under butt, some say they are also a slightly different shape although I'm not sure of this. The RS seat were cloth or leather with porsche crest on cloth seats, and maybe some other slight variation from the CS seats, these though are uber expensive sometimes reaching £5000 a set.[&:] Edd

Not sure if these were ever original but they look okay with Porsche script, better then the pinstriped ones in RPM's 968 engined 944 S2 'Clubsport'.

I think I'm right in saying that the 944S2 is lighter than the 968CS as standard, isn't it? The 968's were significantly heavier than the 944's, although I'm not 100% sure why. (I think it's down to heavier bodyshells with thicker metal around suspension turrets and whatnot, and things like 6-speed gearboxes and thicker ARB's.) I also recall that the figures for all the 968's were - at best - only as quick as the 944S2. The variable valve timing may have mustered a few more ponies, but the extra weight keeps them all busy. The challenge of getting an S2 100kg or so lighter without losing any of the practicality is a good one one tho' Edd. Keep us posted with how you get on. Swapping out those heavy front seats has to be the best starting point. And removing the top part of the rear seat. And a can of tyre foam in place of the spare wheel and compressor? In fact, where's that part weights thread ... must be 'round here somewhere ... Oli.

I was offered 2 excellent conditions Pole Positions last summer with the runners etc for £600 in total and turned it down.... right bits but offered to me at the wrong time. [:'(]
