PCM 3.1 time and date problem

I have a Panamera 4S G1 (970) with a strange problem. I recently disconnected the battery and upon reconnecting it the time did not sync to the GPS almanac however the nav works fine with good satellite reception of between 6 and 10. I put another GPS antenna in but it was exactly the same. The date and time started counting from 01/01/2007 and 0000hrs. the time in the settings menu is just dashes and the chrono syncs to the incorrect time from the PCM. I have also lost the time interval for the service indicator which now only shows distance. I have scanned it with a PIWIS 2 and there are no obvious faults to do with the GPS/PCM. All other functions work fine. I am at a loss with this fault and am wondering if anyone else has come across this. PCM.jpgMFD Service Interval.jpg
 
Well an update on this for everyone interested. I sent the unit to a repair facility who tested it and confirmed it was a GPS hardware fault, but unfortunately they are unable to repair it. I stuck my neck out and got a used one from the online bay we all use. Replaced the unit using PIWIS 2 to read/write the data from/to the replacement. Did a vehicle handover on the replacement PCM to erase all data from it.
Hmm not much in the way of a time signal to be seen. Left it on for 10 mins but no change, so decided to disconnect the car from the power supply and move it to a more open space. 3 minutes layer bingo all maps.date and time all synced up fine. So definitely a hardware fault.
The only issue I now have is that the replacement unit goes not have AUX BT enabled so am unable to connect my phone, but I do have an I pod option which I didn't have before.
More research required

I have a similar issue, clock time incorrect on PCM and no time showing in the instruments so everything that is time related is incorrect. Did you ever resolve this issue?
 
Yes eventually I did. I actually bought another PCM from ...ba.y and fitted it. The only issue with the replacemnt was the telephone function was not enabled. Everything else was fine. I refitted my original PCM because the telephone function was more important. I did not disconnect the battery while I was doing this and upon refitting the original PCM everything is fine.
There is another thread about this on Rennlist which I started and it seems our friends in USA have also had this issue and found a workaround.

I have a 997 with PCM 2.1 there is no hope for that 😒

Thanks for your very informative reply you are clearly the world expert on this problem!

My car is a 958 Cayenne. This problem arose after changing the battery. Interestingly, i have another problem that my PCM makes no noise and as part of trying to cure this i have purchased another head unit. Prior to changing the battery both displayed the time correctly but made no sound. Both have been check by experts and are supposedly not faulty. After changing the battery now neither pick up the GPS time which I struggle to understand. The car permanently has a communication fault C11011 which my OBD reader can't clear.

You do need a PIWIS tool to make the changes described in the video which I don't have. At the moment trying to make the sound work is my priority!

I have exactly the same issue in my 970 4S !! I tried going into an underground carpark to try and resolve but no luck. Will be paying close attention to this thread
 
I’m wondering if an aftermarket Apple play add on board would resolve the issue?
Re the phone connectivity to the pcm, mine disconnected a lot. I have added a Bluetooth dongle to the armrest usb and the connection stability and quality is vastly improved. For now, I’m adding 3 hours onto the sports chrono time to know what the time is, but everything except the date and time seem to be working fine inc navigation. Will see if my OPC will help. I certainly do t want to be buying a replacement PCM. I’m already looking for a solution to the broken hands on my pcm sub clock😵‍💫
