Non Sunroof - How Rare?

North American delivery 944s usually came with all the options as they were a premium priced vehicle here. I would think sun roof delete would have been a special order car rather than a purchase from dealer stock so probably a pretty low percentage of North American delivery cars were sans sun roof.

Saw one at Stamford show. Only one I've ever seen mate. Was a club member's Turbo S. Only one I've ever seen with the factory Turbo wing decal like mine as well.
I wonder if thats the car I saw at Silverstone.. It was a Silver Rose, non sunroof , with the wing decal ! Rare !
Now that you mention it I have only seen one other non sunroof , an 85 Lux in Guards Red at the Moutbellew show in 2009.

Non sunroof cars also look a bit different side on just a bit in my book.

All turbo S models are non sunroof aren't they?
I'm sure some were optioned with one, but in theory yes.
So, why? The sunroof was listed as an option in my 1986 brochure, yet almost all cars have it. Why for the top of the range car did they delete it? It was hardly a stripped-out racer. [8|]

Some "options" are always mandatory with Porsche GB, though, aren't they?
They certainly are on the current cars, as the website configurator shows on the Cayman and 991.
The sunroof was a mandatory option in the UK; certainly for the 1989 model year, and possibly before too. Some original buyers avoided this, and the associated cost, but Im not sure how; as I were only a lad when they were new...
The 'sunroof cars are stiffer' myth originated, I believe, from the statement made in Peter Morgans book. As with most books like this it has a fair few mistakes in it, which end up becoming forum-lore...
My 1985 series one car is without a sunroof, but this isnt as rare in earlier cars; although it is fully optioned in every other respect.

Wonder if that was mine before I bought it?
Yep I have an '85 Lux without a sunroof. The only thing I know about this is on the V5 - "WAS REGISTERED/USED OVERSEAS. DECLARED MANUFACTURED 1985." It was then registered and sold on the 1st August 1986. Where it was imported from and why I don't know.

It was a Silver Rose spec but with striped Burgundy upholstery - originally spec`d/ordered by a British Military chap on secondment to the US so went to Nevada for a while before being brought to the UK. I always assumed the sun was so hot out in the desert it didnt need one.
Took me ages to find one without a s/r as I think they look miles better and the s/r`s on cars I tested (I personally found) were a PITA, noisy, buffeted the car and the head room was reduced.
Here`s my old car................
Euro Spec Turbo S cars do NOT have sunroofs,(the yanks decided they wanted them......Genius !) all MY88 E or F plate, most "E" Plates are Silverose Colour Trim, later ones come in all sorts of trim colour combos, this was because a lot of customers would have bought a Silverose but did not like the colour trim.
Porsche took this onboard and made them available in what ever colour combo the customer desired, looks as though a lot of the the following year cars carried MO30 chassis (89 cars) but most came with sunroofs, any that i have seen.
Saw an early Lux recently with sunroof delete, which was not an option on Turbo S BTW (Except in the good ol USA)
I personaly prefer the cleaner lines.

Exactly, mine was a Silver Rose but without the `trim` but I believe the SR`s did NOT have a sunroof.
