no hot start...

Suddenly running into this. If I try to restart the car whilst it's hot there is no response from the key just a click - solenoid?. Leave it to cool a while and it starts. I assume I need a new start motor? Hot windings, high resistance etc which settles as it cools. Anything else

As you say probably the starter motor, had this in mine a very long time ago and replacing the starter cured it. Martin over on the 968 and tipec groups might be able to offer a rebuild.

Yes I agree, starter faulty. Worth getting a 1.7kw unit if you get a new/re-conditioned one. Will crank over quicker.

I got one on eBay from a German supplier for £113 plus a tenner delivery 3 years ago. You do need to send him your old one. £137 now I see:

Got to be worth a go at £90 with a warranty. Looks to be new and no need to send your old unit. I have no idea about Ridex either, sounds like some sort of adult activity lubricant 😛 , but it wouldn't stop me buying one and see how it goes.

Ridex is Autodoc's own brand.

Spent the day replacing the starter, well nearly. The 19mm nuts holding it in place did not want to come off. Much hammering on my poor ratchet but eventually they did. I've done the daft thing and not photographed the wiring. I have 4 wires , 2 large black with copper terminals, positive I assume, one large red and black, this is the one that is missing in all the online vids, I presume this goes with the other 2 large wires? and the smaller 8mm wire. There's a thread from Blade in 2020 but clearly some of the replies have been deleted.
I've bought the ridex starter above but I'm not sure it is correct. Nearly but maybe not quite. The body is longer than the old bosch one so the heat shield doesn't fit so well, I can't bolt it into the main fixing bolt just the 2 on the solenoid and the wires are struggling to reach the terminals. I'll have another go later but I'm not entirely convinced.
One thing I do know is I'm too old to be crawling under it so next buy will be a scissor lift!
