Nexen Tyres

I know tyres are a massive subject but has anyone ever used Nexen tyres on their 944 and if so are you happy with them. Thanks.

I think that Steve Simkin has 245/45/16 Nexen rears on a set of wheels that he has, and he was happy enough with them.

Yes, used them on my s2 for 9 months. Not a premium brand but I had no problems in wet or dry. Have a couple of rears sitting in the garage. Plus, toyos for the fronts. Will be on eBay shortly.

Interested to see what comes up here - Nexen entered the Canadian market via Walmart so are perceived as low end economy tires although their web site indicates they produce performance tires also. Viso televisions also entered the Canadian market via Walmart and after a couple of years were being handled by other retailers. Visio seems to be a pretty good TV (as good as my LG ) so lets hope Nexen is a similar story - good product at a good price. I don't hold out much hope for Porsche putting them on their N-spec list [8|]

Looking at a set of Nexen N6000 for my 968, 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 which I can get delivered for £272. Falkens would be another £50 or so. The cost of fitting would be about £60 on top.

Buy the Falkens! That will be the best £50 youll ever have spent, even if the Nexens are actually quite good.

I agree, why skimp on budget tyres when the Falkens are already a bargain and well proven to be up to the job...

Had both. Buy the Falkens of the price differential is that low. To be honest, I can't say performance wise that the difference was noticeable but nevertheless I'd prefer one brand over the other.

Actually looking for a rear set for my S2 as a stop gap so when you put them on eBay please let me know depending on size (need 255/40/17)

I haven't used Nexens on my 944, have Falkens which I am very happy with. But I do have Nexens on my Golf GTi, the last front set lasted around 11K miles which I thought was pretty poor and is the worst tyre wear I have ever had. The rears seem pretty much untouched which is what you would expect really.

Other than the wear I have been quite happy with them, there has been no hint of anything in dry or wet, although driving in the snow was pretty much a non starter, had to revert to the 944 for that. Don't know if that was the tyres, 18" wheels or just the GTi though.

With the mileage I put on the 968 wear shouldn't be an issue. It will probably take me at least 5 years to do 11k. [:D]

This is a good point made by Jim. On a car that does low mileage and is not tracked, a set of tyres may well be past their best from the point of view of calendar life long before they are worn out. A fresh set of tyres in the mid-market Falken sort of category may well be superior to a five or six year old hardened-off set of expensive premium tyres, and that means that for many people the actual wear rate ceases to become a concern.

Paul, price depends on the exact size you get, obviously, but Camskill seems to be the best value I could find at the moment. If you fitted 245 instead of 255 to the rear you can get Falkens for the price you mentioned.
