New W.Midlands member - 944 S2 track modified - For Sale

As the floor has been jacked at the front there, make sure the throttle pedal works and doesn't stick down! Thats the usual problem with jacking there.

You got an MX5? Me too [;)] At my last trackday I met a couple of owners who were having a whale of a time in Eunos`s and I have been in a supercharged one [:)] I was that impressed I have just bought an early 1.6 Eunos - superb fun, now looking for 1.8 calipers and a turbo to bolt on to it [:)] I`m tracking the Golf this weekend and almost wish it was the Mazda (as long as its sunny)

I had a 1994 1.8 Eunos, LSD, HSD suspension, 1/2 cage, bucket seats, ported engine. A really fun track car. I sold it as I wanted a bit more oomph. I considered the supercharging route. On reflection this would have been a decent route to go down. But the guy I bought the car off, offered to buy it back off me. I agreed and initially went looking for a Westfield. But the prices seemed too high for what they are in my opinion, so here I am, now with a 944 S2.

I had a Westfield [:)] 2.0L VX Red Top on twin Webers - great fun

Yes Ive got a UK 1999 1.8l NB. Im not having a deal of luck though, because even though it was a beautiful car when I bought it, its been crashed into and now the engine has a major problem. [:(] Supercharging seems to be easier Paul. Turbo manifolds and associated kit are either i] Fylin' Miata and extremely minty, or ii] cheap Chinese and extremely short lived! Tim Lane (TRLane) makes all of the bits that you need to fit a Mini supercharger and you can buy a PnP MS2 thats ready to go with base maps and everything. Tim also makes some extremely reasonably priced roll bars. They were more like glorified style bars to start, but hes had a good look at Hard Dogs products and improved his offerings no end, for about half what a Hard Dog costs. Simon

Bit of an update Fuel filter replaced. Oil filter finally removed by using a claw device. Split drive shaft boot replaced. Front brake calipers stripped and cleaned New ATS Super Racing Blue brake fluid New coolant Two new front tyres Rear interior trim all removed

Need to find a tool or chemical to remove the remaining sound insulation material left behind. Sky blue foam headlining replaced with something a bit more sober (car previously sunroof model but new roof has been welded in - hence the foam padding)

Next, off to Wheels in Motion on Friday for geometry alignment. Jobs to do: Fix minor leak from steering rack - might have to face the cost of a recondition unit. Weld new harness anchor points to MSA specification Buy an exhaust muffler insert to reduce the current 103db noise Bodywork needs a polish It's getting there, though rather slowly.
 
Back from Wheels in Motion. Short of any special request from me they went for a fairly neutral setting. They struggled to change the rear, hence the little change there. Now looking forward to a track day to test it out :) I welcome any suggestions for alternative settings.

That's a reasonably similar setup to the one promax have just done for me. They said lots of camber was hard to get at the front with standard top mounts and the kw's My car is on road tyres for now Might have to look at camber plates & more aggressive geo when I put some track tyres on.
 
Depending on the tyres, that's pretty minimal camber. Most people run 2.5 to 3.5 degrees of neg camber on the track. I've not seen anyone run more neg on the rear than on the front of these cars. These cars will exhibit push understeer especially in slower corners. If you are going to get some camber plates may I suggest Racers Edge. Not super cheap but well made and also allow more room for full compression before hitting bump stops. With the GAZ struts you can get much more camber by design on the top bolt of the pair holding the upright. ISTR on standard shocks not being able to get more than about 2.5 to 3.
 
The GAZ top mounts look nice and theyre reasonably priced too. Its a shame that they dont have a reference scale milled on, though. Simon
 
Thanks for the info guys. brakes - the pads are EBC Yellowstuff. The issues I had turned out to be plate lift on one calipers, which has now been cleaned up :) top mounts - my car is on Spax. So need to do some reasearch whether those plates are compatible. Thanks for the suggestion as they look be a nice idea :)
 
Addition of a harness bar for improved safety. It needs painting , but I'll do that myself to save a few pounds. I'll move the camera mount to the harness bar after painting.

The outboard lower anchor points have also been moved rearwards to stop the buckle rubbing on the seat with the risk of being released under load:

I've removed the roll cage which also required the seats to be removed. The new harness bar will be painted and with the seats out I'll make another attempt to clean up the inside and maybe paint the floor.

I think you did the right thing. It was a lot of effort for minimal gain - not sure if gain is even the right word. :)
