New W.Midlands member - 944 S2 track modified - For Sale

Youll have to buy it well Pat, because itll cost a bloody fortune in petrol to get it home! Actually, I may be interested in driving it for you, because my little brother lives in Adelaide and Id like to see him.

ORIGINAL: 333pg333 How bad is the rust? Is it terminal or curable within reason? If curable, would you hazzard a guess how much a shop would charge and how extensive is it through the car? I'm possibly looking for something like this for another project.
Pat - as far as I am aware, you cannot import an 89 car or later into Australia if the model was sold here. That means you are limited to 88 or earlier - hence no S2's. The only exception is if it is a personal import and you have owned the car (and lived in the same country) for a period of 12 mths. It doesn't matter if you don't register it. I looked into doing this with a Cayman S (for a track car) as they are so cheap in the UK. Eric

Hi Eric, thanks for that. I did a bit of research some time ago so I can't remember the specifics, but I had thought that if you were importing it as an actual 'Race Car' and had a race licence then this would be ok? Nevertheless, I am concerned about the amount of rust in the UK cars. Just don't know if it's feasible to buy one relatively cheaply and then have the rust treated, then repaint the car plus the importation costs...or just wait for one here. I'm not fussed if it's an S2 or 951, just would prefer a later model than the '86 951.

On a positive note Pat, the exchange rate has effectively halved the cost. I can remember when my brother sent my daughter $100 for her birthday and ie got £32 for it. Now AUS$100 would be worth about £60!

Now on as an Ebay auction with a 99p start price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120953289437?ssPageName=STRK:MESCX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1554.l2649#ht_2888wt_1396

Isnt that only half of what youd originally offered it for? Having looked more closely I now realise that there was a reserve which had been met. Simon

Yes it was up for £4495 for quite a while. But ultimately the market dictates its value, which this evening is £2500.

It was, but due to a sudden family commitment the buyer has withdrawn from the purchase - so it's back up for sale :( I've offered it to someone I know, but should he refuse, it'll be on PistonHeads at a much reduced price than before.

I suspect that itll sell if the price starts with a three, presuming that the car has a full MOT.

The car looks good, the spec sheet and recent work looks good, have many people been to actually view it or were they bidding blind?

The winning bidder saw it a few weeks ago when it was advertised on PistonHeads. So he was a genuine bidder with a genuine reason to withdraw. For all the decent reputation the 944 has, I suspect its demand as a track car is quite limited. For reference, I sold my similar specification Mk1 MX5 for £3k within 1 day.

I saw the car before Will bought it, and reckoned it pretty sound but rather untidy and was worth £2.5K then, it has certainly been improved in his ownership, £3K would be a very good buy I think.

I'm totally serious when I say if it weren't White I'd genuinely have bid on it myself. Sadly it actually went for 2100 as the 2500 bidder didnt honour his bid did he ? . You could have the last bidder bid 7,000 but if he didnt honour then it isnt really a bid. I'd change the wheel and spoiler colour and put the interior trim back in , quite a nice dual use car then don't you think ? I flamin hate buyers pulling out on 'any' excuse though TBH almost as much as I do sellers not honouring their end which reallllly miffs me. Is it going back on the Bay ? Mas

I'll wait to hear from this guy I know. But failing that it'll go back on Ebay and Pistonheads with a asking price of £3k. Even though that's more than the auction it's an incredibly fair asking price I believe. ps. I'm not interested in investing more money in the car with cosmetic changes. I've moved on to another car now so this one needs to go.
