Just had the rear brakes cleaned up and replaced, all the fluids done etc. I was hoping to do this myself but got well and trully stuck with a pad pin that was rusted in. I just don't have enough tools, so I booked it in to my local independant, RPM in Knaresborough and spent the day with them seeing how it is done properly and learnt loads.
Anyway, when we came to put the new discs on that I had ordered, they were clearly not going to fit, the dish wasn't deep enough. My supplier was surprised as the part numbers were correct for the car, but could get the deeper depth discs, but sadly didn't have them in stock. So RPM ordered some from their supplier and guess what, the parts that turned up were the same and didn't fit. Eventually they managed to get the right parts, but on checking with Leeds OPC my VIN number turns out to indicate that the car is a 944S. But it isn't it has an 8 valve engine.
I have all the receipts going back to year dot and the mileages add up and there is no mention of an engine change that I can find and so on. So has anyone else come across this as it appears that car needs the S parts. Is there a difference or were there simply two options and the VIN is an anomoly?
