My 992 C2S has gone but at last my GT4 has arrived!

Looks great Martin. Has the Sat nav broken it appears to have taken you off-road. You can find the factory of build with the 11th digit of your VIN.

The shoulder straps for the harnesses will happily tuck away behind the seat, I haven’t tried with the lap belt, I just push it to the side. Have you had the garage install them for you?

it’s a real shame about the paintwork. I do wonder if that’s an OPC wilmslow thing, I got some nice swirls from them after a service, will make sure to tell them not to wash in the future.

I also have the standard radio, I can’t comment on it as I have just realised I’ve never turned it on!

Enjoy it! [:)]

Hi Oli,

Thank you for your comments, it appears that my GT4 came with the off roading tyres... 😉 The 11th digit on my VIN is an S, does this mean it comes from Stuttgart?

Once I’ve got my car back from the detailers and this lockdown has eased perhaps we can meet up and compare cars and notes over a coffee?

Cheers,

Martin

Absolutely sensational looking car Martin. I hope you are happy with it and look forward to seeing it in the metal very soon.

S for Stuttgart indeed. There goes my half baked theory about tyres, I guess it’s just luck of the draw.

Sounds good to me, mines going in for PPF/Ceramic on the 6th for a week, however I suspect it will be the new year for coffee anyway.

Race you to get it broken in? 😄

I don’t know why, but I’m glad to hear that mine has come from Stuttgart.

Your on, I’m already up to 90 miles... Perhaps we can have a run over to the Carding Shed at Holmfirth once the lockdown has eased.

Thank you Phil, I’m over the moon with it, it was well worth the wait...

Looking good Martin - great colour - and it’s always difficult to get a true colour representation in a photo ... if there is such a thing!

At this time of year I doubt that you’d get the true benefit of climate control when temperatures are fairly consistent, and I’m sure that the basic A/C will prove to be more than adequate. Odd that you found climate control hard to use on the 992, but maybe it’s more complicated than that on my ageing 987.2 CS where I set the temperature, press the Auto button and forget it. If I take it off Auto I can control both the temperature and the fan independently, so I get the best of both worlds.

Enjoy the new car when you get it back from the detailers.

Looks fantastic Martin!

Interested in the 11th digit on the VIN being an S determining that your car was built in Stuttgard. My VINs eleventh digit is 'K', any ideas?

Have fun

K = Osnabruck. Until recently all Caymans were built there but it seems there is now a split between there and Stuttgart which I'm surprised about as the Stutgart factory is pretty darn busy!

Although the 981 Caymans were built at Osnabrück, Porsche initially switched all 718 production (Boxster and Cayman) to Stuttgart but soon transferred Cayman production back to Osnabrück to ease production issues, and it seems that they’re now building Caymans at both locations to meet demand.

I’ve no idea what criteria are being used - spec, colour, LHD/RHD, country? Most likely it’s just down to the availability of production capacity at any particular time. Although the operatives at Stuttgart will have been trained to build Boxsters, Caymans and 911s, those at Osnabrück will work exclusively on Caymans so you’d have to say that they have the most experience building them.

I believe that the Osnabrück-built cars are then shipped back to Stuttgart (for final sign-off?) before distribution to the dealers.

Sounds good to me. I spent my teenage years growing up around Holmfirth. We might stick out a bit, last time I checked they were still using horse and cart 😄.

Will drop you a PM.

I had a fabulous week off work last week getting to know my Cayman GT4. It is an absolutely brilliant car and I am so pleased that I made the change from the 992 C2S to the GT4.

It is so much more exciting, engaging and fun to drive (and I still haven’t taken it above 4,000 RPM yet). My daughter has kindly put together a short film for me sharing our experience last week and I thought that some of you might find it of interest.

I hope that you enjoy it.
