My 992 C2S has gone but at last my GT4 has arrived!

Looking good Martin. I’m sure Miami Blue will be quite a rare GT4 colour now it’s not available.

Those multi-vehicle transporters are scary vehicles ... that one looks as though it’s about to devour your car..!

Look forward to an update early next week.

Jeff

Looks great Martin. Have you driven one yet?

Give me a shout when you get it and we can go for a little run out somewhere. [:)]

Tomorrow’s the big day and my dealer has been teasing me this evening. I don’t think that I’ll be able to sleep tonight, it’s better than Christmas Eve!

I couldn’t sleep either.

what time are you collecting? Looks like you’ve managed the one sunny day of the week!

Hi Oli,

I‘m picking it up at around 9am and can’t wait...

The weather forecast is good for tomorrow, so fingers crossed it will be nice.

What tyres did yours come with? Mine has Dunlops as opposed to the Michelins.

I hope to see you soon.

Martin

Hey Martin, Enjoy. It should be a fun day. Frustrating keeping it below 4K though.

Mine came on the Michelins. It was built in Stuttgart if that makes any difference. I believe they're both great tyres anyway, though either perhaps not the most friendly in the cold and wet.

Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh for myself at some point.

Oli

Beautiful day today Martin. You should be in it by now! Enjoy, look forward to seeing and hearing it soon.

Odd to hear that your car was built in Stuttgart Oli since Cayman production is centred in Osnabrück. Presumably Porsche are shuffling production around to meet demand.

It’s just pot luck as to which tyres are fitted and is not location dependent. It always seems odd to me that despite the myriad of expensive options you’re not able to spec your choice of tyre supplier.

Not that surprising ... Michelin are, according to my supplier the most unreliable provider in the industry. My own supply experience issues started back in the late 80`s and still continue !

We have to wait for the best it appears :ROFLMAO:

Andrew,

You’d have thought 30+ years would be enough time to sort out their supply problems! [:(]

I'm not 100% but I believe they moved a fair bit of production back. Makes no odds to the car really, I just wondered if Stuttgart had a warehouse full of Michelins and Osnabruck had the Dunlops. Thinking about it, it's probably nowhere near as straightforward as that, I bet procurement for Porsche must be a rather stressful job.

At least they're letting people choose Pilot Sport 4S tyres with the Spyder now, but indeed it is odd. I know everyone wants the Michelins, but are we any good enough to really tell the difference? I know I'm not, they are meant to be more or less the same in performance.

I took advantage of the nice weather today myself and went for a little run out at lunch time, didn't see Martin out and about, did manage to light up the TC on the rears at 55mph in 3rd, cold tarmac! :ROFLMAO:

I don’t think any manufacturers have warehouses full of components these days Oli; it’s all just-in-time supply.

You’d have thought that for winter production at least Porsche would have allowed GT4 buyers to spec MPS4S tyres as an option wouldn’t you? Even my 987.2 CS fitted with PZeros was a bit skittish today in the sunshine with all those little damp patches in shaded areas, so I can imagine that your GT4 handling was a bit spiky with the Cup tyres.

Jeff

Very good point Jeff, but if Martin comes back and says his was built in Osnabruck, then that's all the proof I need for my theory [:D]. Joking aside, I'm quite impressed their supply chain hasn't been too impacted with all these events, or they've done a great job of managing it.

It wasn't too bad when they got up to temperature, but I wasn't exactly pushing the car as it's only got 190 miles on it so far.

Eagerly awaiting to see how Martin got on, and how he feels it compares to his 992.

It was a fabulous day for my social distancing car handover and I must say that Anthony Harding and all of the team at Porsche Centre Wilmslow were excellent, they made the collection of my first GT car very special, they even through in one of the aluminium look fuel caps. My first impressions of the car are fantastic, the difference between my 992 and the GT4 in my opinion are night and day.

The car is already outstanding although I’ve only been able to take it up to circa 4,000 RPM, I just need to get the running in period out of the way so that I can enjoy that 8,000 RPM limit.

Having not really experienced a 981 GT4 for any period of time, compared to the 992, I am happy with the sound that the car makes and the gearbox feels great, it makes you feel more involved than the PDK in the 992 and the car certainly has that theatre and character that I was hoping it would have. It is too soon for me to give any useful feedback regarding the long gearing issue.

The red callipers are not the problem that I thought they would be and the standard radio seems fine for my ears. Also, it’s early days but the standard AC also seems fine and is easier to use than the climate control in the 992.

I‘m not sure which factory it came from but it certainly has a lot of swirl marks on the paintwork, so I am glad that I have booked in tomorrow for a decontamination, Machine Polish and ceramic coating application. Following which I will apply the 3/4 size self adhesive front number plate.

Do any of you know if the harness buckle will push through the slot in the bucket seat when it’s not in use?

Finally thank you to all of you for your help, advice and input to date, it really is very much appreciated and I am a very happy chap. After what has been an awful year, Christmas really has come early for me this year...

Here is another photo, I’m delighted with the colour although the photos do not really do it justice. It really does look better in the metal:
