Just had an update. The car is clean and free from oil however they need to replace the sound insulation and the felt lining as they are soaked with oil. I woke this morning with the thought it may have gone over the wiring loom but thankfully it’s not. . Parts are available from Germany so they’re ordering them now. Not on back order, thank God. Car should be done and ready middle of next week.

All in all the cost is £699. In honesty I had at least £1500 in mind with the Porsche labour costs so for it to be half that I’m happy. Looks like my new front tyres will have to wait a little longer.

I still can’t get over the fact that you’ve had the car for 4-years! I can remember suggesting that you went for the climate control option rather than the bog standard aircon when you were finalising the spec.

I will be doing the Spa Classic again this year followed by a visit to friends in Burgundy. Didn't know fire extinguisher was requirement for Belgium, so thanks for that! Must plan to take in the German museums.
There are a lot of police cars and cameras in France. They show up on Waze, which I think is illegal?, so be prepared to unplug if stopped. In any event its not worth it. The roads, once you get in to the countryside, are of such good quality , and relatively free of traffic, that you can just relax and enjoy. Also noticed that the tyre noise on French tarmac seems to be less?

Good shout on the fire extinguisher in Belgium, a lot of people miss that one until they’re already on the road. Same with some of the other “small but mandatory” bits that vary by country.

On France, yeah, Waze definitely still shows fixed and mobile speed camera zones. Technically they don’t like active warning of exact locations, but in practice plenty of people still use it. As you say though, once you’re off the main autoroutes and into the countryside, it’s way more enjoyable just taking it steady and soaking it in.

Well after 16 months of joy in my base Cayman I've finally got approval to buy my unicorn, a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.

After a day with my OPC's demo which I let OC Home Command drive for the majority of it (bit of mind games going on), we put a deposit on a GTS with an initial request put in for an allocation in March with delivery in June however, I got a call today to say a February build slot has come up and would I like it. I would be silly not to so the car will/should be with me end of March.

Spec is as follows:

PDK (I wanted manual but she said no, she wanted cruise and I got my own back and said no)
Aventurine Green
Alloys in silver
PDSL with headlight washers in black
Race tex interior with extended items in leather
Speed limit display
Dual zone climate
Auto dimming mirrors

Power steering plus
Light design package
Folding mirrors
Park assist F&R & heated seats but these are now standard items.

I've opted for the standard 20mm drop so many thanks to everyone for your advice and I'm just hoping I win the tyre lottery and get the Michelin PS4S like I have now.

Now needless to say this is the most expensive car I've ever owned but this WILL be my last Porsche and one I will keep unless something drastic happens. It also helps that my car with 10k miles on the clock has almost £10k of equity in it.

I've even bought a new reg plate for when it arrives

Congratulations! That sounds like a fantastic specification, and Aventurine Green with the silver wheels is a classy combination. The GTS 4.0 is one of those cars that really feels special, so I can understand why you plan to keep it long term. Hopefully you get the Michelin tyres as well—it would be the perfect finishing touch.
