lots of questions

Hi there folks,

As ever I'm looking for some answers to my questions. I'm new to 911's and I'm trying to build up my knowledge so that I can make an informed purchase.

1. What are heat exchangers? I knoiw a lot of cars are advertised as having stainless steel heat exchangers. How much would these cost at a specialist?

2. The same question as above relating to hydraulic tensioners? I am correct in thinking that these were fitted to the later 3.2 Carreras? What is the cost of having these fitted at a specialist?

3. A lot of cars are advertised as having top end rebuilds. At what mileage is this normal and at what mileage should the bottom end need rebuilt? I know this is largely dependent on how the car has been driven and the frequency of servicing but ball park figures would be very helpful. How much would a top end rebuold cost at a speciliast?

4. How long should the clutch last and how much is a replacement at a specialist?

5. Where should I look for signs of corrosion in the bodywork?

Many thanks.

Martin.

Martin, have you tried using the search facility on the forum? Look at the bottom of this message, under the 'Jump To' field. Type the search term into the field, hit search and it will look through the SC board, click on other boards (Carrera most relevant) or search from the front page to look through the hole site. Posts like this one take a lot of answering and you would be better off looking for the answers that already exist first IMO.

I would also recommend that you ensure you are seeing all topics - make sure 'All Topics' is selected in the appropriate field and that it is not defaulting to just what has popped up in the last 30 days.

Have you checked out Pelican Parts' excellent forum yet? Recommend you read up there as they have lots of info you might not have seen.

Peter Morgan's Buyers Guide is the best place for info on rust locations - £9 from Amazon, see link in the 1986 Targa thread.

Cheers

John

Martin,

I think you have already posted on the 3.2 carrera site, where detailed answers have already be given, and I also note, several other posts here. Whilst we are all happy to help a new porsche owner, you show up on this forum as a non member. is this the case or maybe you havent registered fully???
