Life after Cayman - My 2021 Alpine A110 Legende GT.

Hi Brian, so sorry to hear of the need to make your decision. It will be interesting to hear what comes next. All the best.

Brian

Sorry to hear your situation and know it will be hard for you to come to terms with your health issues. I read all your posts with interest and know how you loved your cars and the track days esp KH our home circuit. I am sure you will be able to move your car on and find a suitable mode of transport that fits your needs. Keep positive.

Regards

Brian

I too am very sorry to hear about your situation Brian, but the important thing - unlike some ageing drivers - is that you’ve recognised the situation and have taken your decision in the interests of your own safety and that of other road users, for which you are truly to be commended.

I’m sure that whatever replacement vehicle you choose you will still continue to enjoy your driving and use it to visit places which you’ve described on your many entertaining posts on this this forum. I sincerely hope that you will continue to do so.

Equally I’m sure that you’ll have little difficulty obtaining a satisfactory price for your Alpine given the high prices being paid currently for low mileage used vehicles in excellent condition.

Best wishes,

Jeff

I’m very sorry to hear that it has come to this Brian. This must have been a very tough decision to make. I hope very much that you can still get some enjoyment and fun from motoring in whatever vehicle you choose for the future.

Brian, a tough decision to have to make. Very best wishes and I hope you can find a suitable vehicle to make the most of the raosds and scenery that you have in your region. Do let us know how you get on.

Hello Brian,

I'm also very sorry to learn that your medical condition is leading you to sell your beloved Alpine A110. By the way, I sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago, but suspect it may not have reached you as I did not receive any reply.

I had recommended a book to you - recently published by David Towhig who was the chief engineer managing the Alpine A110 project.

An excellent read which covers his early days at Nissan, then with Renault and finally with Alpine. The title is Inside The Machine and it is very reasonably priced on Amazon.

On the subject of what you'll replace the Alpine with, may I recommend you try a BMW?

If you are open-minded to the replacement I would suggest a used and good condition M240i (or 140i). New model is not an improvement in my view.

Had I not already owned a Porsche (Boxster S at the time, but now Cayman) I would have bought an M240i, but instead bought a 340i Touring.

Of our three cars if we had to sell any of them the BMW would be the last to leave! I think the M240i could suit your purposes well.

Best wishes, Peter

That's a coincidence Peter I was also thinking of suggesting a BMW to Brian although I was thinking along the lines of a nearly new 340i touring or saloon as I'm not a fan of the massive touch screens on the face lift model.

But he might prefer the smaller body, it will be interesting to see what makes his shortlist

Chris

We’re on the same page about the touchscreens Chris.

The new models are OK if you don’t mind carrying an extra couple of hundred kilos.......or closing your eyes whenever you approach the front!
