Hi - I have a 997 GTS PDK which I have only driven a few times so far and I'm pleased with it. I have a query re Launch control which I can't seem to get working but it's probably just the way I'm doing it!

Only tried a couple of times (I have to admit it sort of feels like it's not going to do the car much good) but the launch control indicator doesn't come on in the steering wheel. I'm selecting sport plus left foot on brake and depressing accelerator. Do you need to floor the throttle all the way the floor quickly? Not sure I did it right - thought I might ask before I break something [:)]

Sport plus, left foot hard on brake, FLOOR throttle on to kick down button, revs stabilise, launch control caption, slip brake and away you go![:)]

Leave it more than a few seconds with the revs up and system will disengage - I leave it in auto as in manual one has to be rather quick on the upshift[;)]

The caption should come on as soon as the revs stabilise, I.e almost immediately.
 
Sport plus mode must be selected (this is often forgotten) before launch strategy will operate and when engine revs level out at 5,000 RPM.

As already mentioned, it will automatically lapse if held for too long so as not to overload the transmission.

Road and Track finally got around to uploading the video of their 'abusive' 50 times back to back launches of the new 991 Turbo using launch control. Remember, the 991 generation 911 Turbo does not come with a manual gearbox option so the dual clutch PDK gearbox is the only choice. Road and Track posted a data panel of their 991 Turbo testing showing an oddly 'slow' 10 second 1/4 mile time of 10.9 @ 124.4 miles per hour using launch control.

In the video below Road and Track shows the launch process and their 50 launches using the launch control system. The PDK holds up to the abuse although the clutch life on this car will likely not last the lifetime of the car despite what manufacturer ZF and Porsche state. Abusive launches like this will shorten the life considerably below the 100,000 mile 'lifetime' claim. Good luck getting Porsche to honor a warranty claim on this 'lifetime' gearbox when they read out 50 launches back to back from the ECU.

It is very impressive that the transmission did not overheat and the system allowed continued launches like this especially considering Road and Track was doing these launches in the California desert. The warm air along with heatsoak likely play into the 124.4 mile per hour trap speed recorded which is considerably slower than others have achieved.
