Just Wondering About Ages?

Just turned 47....... Definitely an 80's fan....... both my cars are from the 80's....... the 87 944, and an 89 MK2 XR2 ( one of the last ones built)... And my CD collection is full of 80's music[:)]

Bought mine just after I turned 40 earlier this year. My Mum had a new 924 back in '81 and I wanted her to upgrade to a 944 when they came out, but she got a job with a company car and had an Alfa 33 Veloce (last of the twin carb models) it went better than the Porsche, but the build quality was poles apart! Was in TWG Motorsport at the weekend having my Cambelt re-tensioned and was looking at a 928S4 and a 964 C4 on the forecourt, both could be the next step...after discussing it with the guys there, they said that both are absolutely fantastic cars....but the 928 would never visit them with a bill of less than £500 (my bill was £28 on Saturday!) and they said that I would be better off with a 3.2 as a first 911 rather than the 964. Fantastic honesty from those guys!

I'm 24 and on my second 44 now. Finally the insurance is starting to come down and hopefully next year when I emerge from my cocoon as a responsible and mature member of society it will come down even more!

Well i got to admit, its nice to see such a variation in age, i will be honest, and im sorry to everyone for this, but i was expecing everyone to be over 40. But i was proved wrong, so i do appologise. looks like i must still be the youngest and therfore have the most expensive insurance around!!! [:(][:(][:(][:(]

I've just moved from my '91 'tweaked' 944T to a 964 (RS-alike wannabe!) and it is a vastly different car to drive to the superb 944 - I think you might find the 3.2 Carrera to be positively archaic after the understated brilliance of the 944T. Just my thoughts[:D]

Nice one Nick.. an honest view of the two cars from someone who's driven a 911 and a 944T..... you made this old man smile.. oh I forgot...SWMBO says i'm just a big KID and she should know...[8|][8|] Pete

Phew! Thought I was going to have to admit to being the oldest nut in town but at ten years your junior I feel almost teenage (sorry!). Had mine nearly three years now and still love it as much as the day I bought it.

Thanks for your thoughts, you concur with 911 & Porsche World who do a write up on the 3.2 this month and suggest that a 3.2 does not compare to a 944 in build quality and engineering. Speaking to Friends who have/had SC/964/993/996s, I still think a sorted 964 would be the right next step, but it is a long way off yet and I want to enjoy the 944T for a while!

My Porsches are actually older (in terms of total years) than the owner. I'm 55, that is according to my birth certificate, but in terms of the age that I act then next year I will be taking my eleven plus (if they still have such a thing?) [:D] Cheers,

Brilliant, good to hear that Fred![:D]

I'm one of the younger ones. 24. Pay £600 a year FC on insureance too. That makes it cheaper than my Peugeot 306 GTi-6 to insure (and in a way it's more fun to drive too). Before then, I had a Focus, Ka, VW Beetle 1200 and 2 MGBs (one of which is still with me today). RJones, who are you with? It should be alot cheaper than that! Even at 22 I could insure a 2.5 for £900 Fully Comp.

Ummmm.....I'm with Admiral. Don't have any no claims as it is my second car. Rang around quite a few and that was the lowest. Who are you with??

38 will be selling my cars in a couple of years as i will just be too old, going to buy something sensible like a Honda Accord.[:D]

... and NASA scientists today announced in a shock discovery that the moon really IS made of green cheese! ([:D]) Oli.

I'm 54 and a latecomer to Porkas but being over 50 does have fiscal advantages - my 18 year old stepson is well cheesed off at the amount of the insurance premium on my S2 Cab! [;)]

47 and still daft ! i have owned 944.s for about 10 years on and off now, love em to bits, will buy a 911 variant sometime just to say i have had one, everyone at work has been educated to what 944.s are about. And are surprised when i tell them that the Turbo S will blow the doors off most 911.s most people i come across immediately think 911 when i talk about Porsche ownership..........................Ignorant Bliss ! Spoke to a guy who owned a 997 Turbo and said that the 944 T was about the best car produced by Porsche without being prompted, just came up and said it to me when the car was at a local classic show 944 So good i bought 2 !

... i just switched over to a boxster so no longer a 944 owner, however i'm 36 and the insurance for the 944 through Lancaster was just over £150 a year on classic insurance. [:D]
