sounds good john,,we should be arriving on cue,,if its ok i will bring my cousin along who is much better with a spanner then i,,hope thats ok greg,,if not please let me know,,,,jason

Two bits of news; - I've just heard from Jason that he has had to go into work unexpectedly, at short notice. He therefore won't be with us today, which is a shame. - I've left a message for Edd to find out whether he is still up for it and whether he wants to drive in convoy from London. I'm hoping he will call me back. I'll definitely be there, setting off from E London sometime after 12.00pm. See you in a while. Oli.

Damn, you guys can count me off :(. Today is about the only day I have had to semi 'fix' the working daily (an Alfa 147 JTD with the 'water in filter' light and MCSF red light :/) (it has been used for every day of the week, and hot EGRs are not fun to deal with!). I'm halfway through as Ii type this (I was meant to type this earlier). Assuming I finish it shortly I may head down (time to head back to finish it!), but I don't also wish to turn up as everyone is going :p. Have fun chaps.

Sorry I didnt make this guys but ended up extending my holiday to Cornwall for few days before going back to work. Hope a good day was had. Edd

Thanks to John and Oli for comming today I had a really nice time it was great to put a face to a name, food fantastic. Thanks John. And we did some tinkering. Well they sorted out my car. Thanks. Oh John when I started the 944 the horn would sound when turning you said this happen to someone else can you remember why?! All you gits who didn't come you missed a good day. Oh well next time I'm happy to host again no problem. Greg

Greg you just need to remove the shroud around the column switches and using an 8mm oe (open ended) spanner locate and loosen the switch clamping bolt, then wiggle the switchdown the column a little bit then clamp it up and try again. Dont put the shrouds back until you are happy with the position. funnily enough, when I changed the switches on my cab I never had that issue. I have uploaded a picture of my "aquarium" Plenty of space for Oli to practise floating. Yes all those who found the most feeble of excuses to bug out are miserable gits, and before you all take offence remeber how insulted we were; me I jet washed and transported my not particularly light barbecue hearth, and had to use my AX gti the only thing it would fit in. Greg is too much of a gentleman to say this but expecting committment from all the all talk no doers had spent a lot of money on food, that in istself can be frozen but the effort to go and but £50 of food for no-one to turn up is quite an insult and particularly bad manners. You all missed a fantastic day Greg is the ultimate host and true gentleman that he is, is still willing to try to arrange another garage day.

As has been said - 'twas a very good day which seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by all. Those who didn't make it, you were missed. John's words are firm and I can't add anything to them. Greg was indeed an excellent host, making us all feel at home with a great hospitality - thank you Greg. Thanks also to John for generous dispensation of food, sage wisdom and experienced help on all topics Porsche. Greg, I probably set the column switches too high up. As John said, they are clamped to the column with a bolt which needs to be loosened and then it will all slide down the steering column a couple of mm. Don't slide them too far as the horn then won't work at all, but it's not difficult to adjust. Apologies for getting it wrong. Oli.

ORIGINAL: Greg James We need to do it again.
We do! Shall we invite the others again, or just name the date and John and I can show up for another convivial afternoon of eating and spannering? [:)] Oli.

Assuming my moderns don't fail as catastrophically as they have been (the second one really has bled me dry (who said VAG reliability was good?)) I shall be OK. I do feel quite bad for not turning up, but I could not see the final two dailies left going to the same fate as my '06 Passat (I.e: Scrap). Especially not the 951 which is now covering around 300 miles a week (eeek!) and the Alfa around 500 (severly limiting when I (or a garage who knows what they are doing with an Alfa) can look at it).

Well, it sounds like we simply need to arrange another one - and soon, while Andy still owns his Turbo and before Chas's other waggons break down again ... [:)] (Chas, 300 miles a week in a 944 is good for it. Really. Back when I was doing 15-18k a year in my S2 it ran as sweetly as you like. Since it has dropped to about 5k a year it's deteriorated, depressingly rapidly. These cars thrive on being used.) Oli.

Lets do it again next time well use Gregs bb and I'll bring some tools, especially sockets bigger than 24mm and real screwdrivers.

Come on then let's make it happen. I'm going to silverstone on the 28th. And the bring your own car for the other silverstone thing other than that I'm all good. Suggest some dates that work for people. It really could be a good thing to do for everyone. I learnt loads and have plenty of room for people to mess with there cars behind my house and the weather is meant to hold so BBQ 2 the sequel lets see if it can be better than the first.

I've got this Saturday free - after which the 25th August is my next free weekend day as I have family commitments and car shows all over the place! (That includes Cranleigh penciled in with you nice chaps from here on the 18th! [8D])
