I've sold the S2.

If I had a pound for every ad I have seen re a 944 that's 'one of the best' or in 'stunning condition' I would be a very happy man. Your 944 however is actually the nicest kept 944 I have personally ever seen and I've seen a bloomin lot of them. I'm surprised your selling as I know how proud you are of your car but as a man who has to keep changing everything every year or two I have to understand don't I :) Lord knows how you are ever going to get the price that car deserves but it will obviously go to someone who who will cherish it. I would be really interested to know what your next 'fun' car is going to be though Edd. Regards Mas currently 'considering' a GT4

Cheers Mas, Cars come and go, I'm not married to it (although did consider it at one point)[:D]. GT4? Not sure what this is. Lets just say for now it will have a turbocharged, 3 litre, straight 6. Edd

Didn't think I would for a while to be honest, but circumstances change and I want to try different cars after nearly 5 years of 944 ownership. I've thought long and hard and I think selling the car is the only way I can afford what I want next.

I've invested alot of time and money into the car over the past few years but I've also done pretty much everything with it I could hope for. European hoons, Le Mans, Porsche Museum, Alpine passes, track days, Scotland, Wales and many other places. I've done 50,000 miles in almost 5 years and seeing I dont really need or use the car for going to work that's pretty much just pleasure miles and over half of all the miles the owners before me put together.

Will I regret selling, perhaps but I have an itch that needs scratching and I wont be happy till I have. I want to try other cars, newer cars, quicker cars, different cars.

The car is going to Daytona next week to fix the door scratch and then I will be advertising it properly, it also needs a black rear luggage blind if anyone has got one?

Not really though about price, but this is probably one of the best S2's out there, now at 137,000. Most will know it.

Stuff I have had done include.

New front ARB bushes and gearbox mount this year.
48,000 service + belts last year, (I changed oil and filter myself, June 2013)
New brakes all round, including NEW calipers, front and rear, upgrading to M030 fronts, NEW 968CS drilled disks, Ferodo DS2500 pads, Super blue fluid
KWV3 suspension, set up and corner weighted by Chris at Center Gravity for fast road.
Boxster S wheels, refurbed by Lepsons earlier this year, shod with Yoko AD08's in March.
Front end respray in 2010, restored front wing bottoms.
Sills are solid
Southbound leather trimmed Recaro Pole Positions, I will probably sell these separately unless someone is willing to pay the extra premium with the car. I still have the old seats.
Engine is Promax chipped, K&N filter, run on Millers Nano 5W40.

This is not an advert, more a heads up.

Would make a good dual purpose track and road car.

Ahhh, the BMW 6-series Gran Coupe then? Perfect for the gentleman of a certain age. [:D][:D] Is it really only 5 years? Seems you've had it for as long as mine. Certainly should be in the running for being one of the few £10K-plus S2s.

Paul is closer, although its not a 6 series, far from it. What was it I said about BMW drivers? I take it all back...[:)] Edd

Interesting. I suspect you'll miss it Edd and share Mas's curiosity as to what you'll replace it with. I was just talking this morning with Mrs zcacogp about the fact that I cannot think of a car that meets my requirements better than my S2 and that if it was written off I would buy another one as a replacement. I also agree with Mas that you haven't a chance of getting the money back that you put into it, but that's the perilous road we all walk whenever we open our wallets to spend money on a car ... [] All the best with the sale, and we'll miss you on here. (I don't think that Porsche ever produced a 3-litre turbocharged straight six.) Oli.

blimey thats a suprise! but all the very best edd,,,looking at the s2 prices on pistonheads,,your car must be up with the much higher priced s2s currently available,,good luck and hope you still pop in,,oh! and enjoy your 135i,,lol,,,

Well now, this is a surprise. It's a nice car so I hope you get a decent price for it that allows you to scratch your next car itch.

I know I wont get the money back, but for me that was never the point, I got it back from driving the thing anywhere and everywhere. Ideally I'd like a 996 GT3 but I don't have the money to buy or run one at the moment. The car I'm getting isn't that far away from the 944, its a hatchback, rear wheel drive, German, 50-50 weight distribution, its a bit more powerful though. M135i is what it is, perhaps the best small BMW to come out of Munich since the original E30 M3 or 2002tti... Edd

Oooooh, now you're talking! Come to mention it, you're choosing a 135i over these two corkers of cars? Really? [] Oli.

Edd, parting with such a lovely 944 will be difficult for you. I sense perhaps an Alpina B3 Coupe on the way...........[8|] not sure anything really replaces the hole that is left by these fascinating cars, but things have to move on. You certainly created a nice spec car and used it too which makes it all worth while.[:)] good luck george

Thanks George, I'm sure it will, many will not know that after having my motorcycle stolen, I had driving lessons and passed my car test in 2008, the same year I bought my first car, this 944 S2, its the only car I've ever owned (well apart from a beetle in the early 90's but I never drove that). I'm pretty sure it wont be my last 944, I have other models I would like to explore. For now I want to try something completely different (but actually not that dissimilar). Edd

Hopefully not one with the flappy-paddle gearbox. My colleague's one was a dreadful thing. There's a firmware bug where it occasionally can't decide what gear it's supposed to be in so sits there in thumb up bum mode for a while (sometimes a small number of seconds) and then decides to play, by which point you've given it a bit more throttle "to encourage it" and it shoots off at unwanted speed. Fixed on the US cars but they can't apply that firmware to the European ones for some reason. BMW ended up refunding his money. Should be a hoot with a manual box, though!
