Quick update - I got home early today so had a chance to get underneath & look at the rust
Not too bad I think - front suspension mount for the o/s/r is completely shot, the other might need a little attention, small repair to the very bottom of one front wing needed, n/s sill looks ok, o/s sill a couple of bubbles, so may need the paint stripping to see what's going on but both look OK from the inside at the front - view from the bungs in passenger / drivers footwells is clean.
Engine bay is a bit cruddy - lots of surface corrosion on the block / intake manifold, brake servo rusty - what's the best thing to clean up aluminium? (Andy Moss suggested a jetwash) Lots of nasty oily residue at the base of the oil filler & all around that area of the engine & what looks like some streaks of coolant under the n/s of the car. It looks like a more straightforward car to work on than the 944 turbo - lots more space (famous last words probably..)
Split rims will definitely need a refurb - the lacquer is gone on all 4.
Off to see the bodyshop tomorrow...
