GTS ordered

Taken the plunge and placed an order for a GTS three weeks ago. Waiting for a build slot but hoping for delivery before the end of the year. Have to sell my 944 S2 cab to make space but guessing it is worth it. Test drove a T which was awesome but looking forward to those six cylinders.

Well done Jason! I’m sure that you won’t be disappointed. With the cars being in such short supply I’m not sure that there are many demonstrators available in the Porsche network, and I assume that you weren’t able to get a test drive?

Just out of interest, has the dealer taken a deposit without actually offering you a build-slot? If so I would think that rather sharp practice.

I’m surprised that they’re talking Q4 delivery. Presumably the engine connecting-rod issue exacerbated by the computer chip shortages are having a significant impact on production schedules?

Just as a reference point, my mid May build (ordered early April) has just been brought forward by 10 days ...... delivery now early June

I missed the sale on a 981 in a similar spec. Very nice! Seats always seem to be a contentious debate. I have 14-way seats and they're good. Mum has 18-way seats in her 991.2 and I find them much more comfortable and supportive (I'm a fairly slim build). Looking forward to seeing the GTS when it's made its way to the UK!

Taking a deposit is quite normal when you’re offered an actual build-slot Jason, otherwise all you’re getting is an offer of a slot with no guarantee as to when the car will be built, a subtle difference. Presumably delivery has been kicked down the road until the end of this year because the dealer has no allocations ATM?

I seem to recall that some time ago the dealers got their knuckles rapped by Porsche UK for such a practise, but maybe in the current climate anything goes.

Congratulations, hope you love it as much as I do my GTS 4.0. It was handed over by Sheffield Porsche on my birthday last November and I've sneaked 2000 miles in since. The only way I could think to improve it would be to have my old 981 GTS exhaust note - which was a little more shouty... I'm only 67, after all! I went for Miami blue, which has received wide approval.

MY OPC said no 2021 cars, so I gave up ona GTS 4.0 Boxster. these are so rare as it the 718 Spyder, no idea why.

would take £5k off me though in case !!! MY OPC NEVER did this in the past, so I refuse to pay a deposit for a non slot !!!

OPC are sh1t to deal with atm.

Great shout on the GTS. I’m hoping to get one in 2023 before the ICE fades forever. I hope you ticked the dual climate control box. It should be standard really but well worth the £500.

I didn't but will add that to my list, I didn't tick the 18 way seats either so will add when I have to firm up my order when I have a slot.

Great that you have taken the plunge, but please tell me why 18 way seats are on your wish list. After getting comfortable, will you ever fiddle with those nickel knobs again?

Spend the money saved on some premium 5 star!

18ways sit higher than the 4 ways also so an issue if you are tall and buy a Cayman.

I guess I was thinking of weight and complexity really. Having had a 981 GTS and weighed it at 1470kg and now have a 987 Spyder which is 1285kg., I'm very much in the camp of, if its heavy don't tick the options box. My Spyder has just about the same power as my GTS, but is close to a quarter of a tonne lighter, and it feels that way. Granted, you have a bit more power to play with 4 litres, but don't squander it on heavy extras would be my way of thinking. The standard car looks the sweet choice if you are happy to forgo the bragging rights!

Sad to say I've sold my 718 Boxster this week after 5 years of fantastic ownership which included tours around Europe every year. Delighted however that I now have some money sitting and was thinking about a GTS too. I've heard wonderful things, anybody have any experience to share?

The standard 2-way Sport seats Plus in the Cayman are very comfortable and very easy to adjust. They are the same seats as the 18-way electric, just less adjustments. They hold you in nicely.

I share the car with my partner. He sits on the floor and I know that I need 15 pulls on the lever to raise myself and a notch closer to the steering wheel. As said above, the 18-way electric ones are mounted higher so it also depends on your preferred seat height.

We had the 18-way electric in the Macan, which made total sense, being a big and comfy / cosseting SUV.

It'll be a great car whatever you decide though. []
