Hartside is a great run... there's a fabulous farmshop/cafe just outside Alston - food 10/10!
We moved to North Yorks 8 years ago specifically for the roads!!.. best kept secret in UK - many areas like going back to 1970s traffic volume wise!!.. quality of other drivers is consequently much higher than anywhere else in UK - JOY!
Draw a square from Penrith.. Skipton.. across to Hull.. up to Whitby.... 10,000 square miles of great roads - gods own country!!
Not to mention Michelin star food and the Worlds best beer!
... did I mention I work for North Yorkshire Tourist board!?( not really!)
Enjoy the drives.. heaven!

Moving house to be near empty roads is taking Porsche ownership to another level. Presume you work from home or run a local business?

There aren't that many Stuttgart machines in my part of the UK (New Forest N ational Park) and for very good reasons, the roads here are in a simply appalling condition and carry a blanket speed limit of 40 mph. In the summer season of course, all the Boxsters and Carrera Cabriolets arrive in droves, their hapless drivers little understanding what lies before them.

How many stay beyond one day is the key question. Porsches on these roads are ruinous for your back. My wife is a Yorkshire lass maybe it's time for us to return to her homeland.

Agreed roads in and around New Forest are terrible for drivers. I’m never sure where to go for a pleasurable drive. I used to live near the mendips and loads of good roads around them.
