Early 944 clutch pedal adjustment?

Guys

You will have seen elsewhere that I have had the clutch pedal mechanism apart to replace a bush. I was already aware that the early cars had some length adjustment in the push rod, and on looking, the rod is threaded and the clevis is a separate part. Question-is there a guide as to how much this can be adjusted or is it just trial and error? Ever since I have had the car I have been burying the pedal into the carpet to get smooth changes and i'm wondering if I can improve matters.
Anyone know?

Cheers

I've just tried that-the only plastic cap with my Sealey pressure bleeder that fitted didn't fit well enough & emptied the reservoir on the floor-so resorted to the normal way with management on the pedal,me underneath-you need a real good shove on the pedal as it nears the floor, close the nipple let up the pedal-start next push, open nipple & so on-I put some rope round the pedal to make it easier for my wife to return the pedal for the next push.

There is limited adjustment on the pedal for the clutch - there is a spec for the length of the spring and a spec for the air gap between the push rod and the master cyl piston. These are in the Work Shop Manual with some drawings.

Push rod to master cylinder piston is 0.5 mm. Free play at pedal is about 3 mm and must be determined by feel.
Spring length when properly adjusted is 60 mm (green spring - unloaded length of 75 mm - no longer available as spare part) and 55 mm (blue spring in use since Feb 1986 - unloaded length of 68 mm).

Hope this helps....
