so I am looking at buying a carrera GTS 991 and have found a lovely example of the gen 1 with only 2,000 miles and a year old in perfect condition

It is however up for strong money £99k

and the new gen 2 will be launched later this month I believe so do I go for the last of the gen 1 at top money and hope it does not lose too much as some of the same year and spec with higher miles are already dropping to low £90's k or wait for the new model and see if I can get into the first of the new turbo models ?

Hi I think that you will have to accept a loss on the GTS as well as the turbo. It all depends what your priorities are. I personally would go for a turbo the performance is electrifying What ever you choose its your choice just enjoy.

i actually am not a a fan of the 911 turbo

the holes in the side of the car to feed the turbos detract from the aesthetics for me personally

i meant the gen 2 GTS being a new engine that is still turbo charged
 
Hi

i faced a similar dilemma Between the 991.1 and 991.2 GTS from a 997 GTS.

i would suggest test driving both. I tested a really highly spec ed 991.2 turbo 4s which was great fun, and then a GTS 991.1.

for me both cars were amazing, but the combination of a very well spec ed normally aspirated 3.8 GTS blew me away, a very special car which sounds fantastic, truly feral. Feels special that it's the last of the normally aspirated cars unless you go the more focused GT3 route, which wasn't for me as I don't track my cars, or win the Porsche lottery and secure a R (good luck with that).

the turbo probably edged it for every day easy performance but for me I love driving and extracting that performacne rather than just expect to access it as easily as possible.

i paid £95k for a 2016 sapphire blue pdk GTS with alcantara with 4K miles from Porsche Bournemouth who were brilliant. I have absolutely no regrets the car is truly special, a real step on from the 997 GTS.

as for depreciation, either way you will be better protected than a C2S etc, but you will lose money. For me, perhaps naively, given the prices of GT3's and others, I think the normally aspirated car will depreciate less but that's a personal view.

whichever choice you make you cannot lose, it's a Porsche and a 911 at that ??
 
Sorry final point was that I found the sports exhaust on the 991.2 turbo car very artificial with forced crackling and popping not a patch on the 3.8 normally aspirated GTS sports exhaust.

Thanks Porker yes I am not a big fan of the turbo for aesthetics or acoustics.

excited to be getting back into a 911 after 4 years away and my first GT car

do you know if it is possible to fit the bucket seats from a GT 3 into the GTS ?

I love the leather alcantara buckets on my friends 991 GT3 and wondered if they are a straight fit ?

Very, very nice. Mine is GTS in sapphire blue, but the black with the black turbo alloys looks great. The sound of the naturally aspirated engine with the sports exhaust on is very special
