Daily driver poll?

Having owned a number of classic retro cars and having used them all as daily drivers including a lancia delta integrale, a tvr and a vw scirocco mk1 storm ( owned now for 27 years) I just want to know how many people use their 944 as a daily driver come winter or summer? I have only had my 944s a couple months but will continue to use it all weathers, I'm not one for sitting a car in a garage and using it few times a year, please I'm not having a go at anyone who does that I understand why, these cars need tlc and pampering but when I was looking for my first 944 I viewed a lovely example and the owner told me the cambelt had been changed 2k miles ago I thought that's good, then it turned out that was 5 years ago!! 2k in 5 years, I just don't think sitting that long does them any good, that's why I wanted one with high mileage ( method behind my madness?) it just so happens my 944s has covered 156k but engine rebuilt 10k ago so best of both worlds. So who else uses theirs as a daily....or am I the only one who is clinically insane!

Mine is a weekend car, not a daily driver but I do cover around 10,000 miles a year in it so it certainly isn't a "garage queen" [;)]

My 944t was my only car for the first 5 years or so, I used it in all weathers & in all but the worst snow it was fine.

However a few years ago the snow round here (Derbyshire) was ridiculously bad & the turbo lag/boost made it all but impossible to pull away gently in deep snow. I considered buying winter tyres/rims but for how much they would have cost I ended up buying a cheap; shed & using that for essential journeys instead.

Still have the Porsche but use it less now, 4 sheds later it's a solution that I'm pretty happy with [:D]

Drive a van in the day a Lexus family car but use the 944 whenever I can just took the family four of use to Brighton today. And loved it

My turbo did over 11k in 1st year and was used everyday to and from work. I'm a groundworker. My S was covered 25k in 2 years mainly social and work

Would take a change off clothes. Use the spear wheel well and side well for tools and clothes. Would left the rear carpet stragicly place shoves and levels bagged and padded both sides.

Got a cheap work van while it went too barks for his ecu and stage 2.

It can be a great daily. I have a company car so use that when I have to. All other times I'm in the 944. The more you drive it (well most old cars) in my opinion the better they run and more reliable they become.

Bit of a pattern here! I also have a van that's the workhorse, and a Legacy for shifting the dogs, and on winter tyres for the worst weather.

The 944 gets picked out of all three if it's the two of us, as it makes sense most times and is more fun. Now insured for 7K per year, as a weekend classic!

Freelander TD4 for dogs and fishing gear, i have 2 944 turbos and i swap them about to do events and shows, the Turbo s went to Germany this year, the 220 has not been too far this year but has done Le Mans on numerous occasions, i agree they are better when used on a regular basis, but i do make sure they are turned over and usually driven no more than 2 weeks standing, hats off to thosew ho use them all year round but i would be gringing when the roads are covered in salt, plus to be honest garaging them and being choosing weather wise when used has paid off with regards to bodywork issues with my cars.
My 220 is incredibly solid and original for it's 27 years, the Turbo S is again very good but has had a couple of lower body repairs.

Mines a daily driver as don't have access to another car. I'm hoping next year though to buy an estate to use daily and have the 944 as a weekend car though :)

I use mine as much as possible.I use my van for work but the 944 for everything else.Even if it just a quick run up the road for a few miles every day.I believe the more they are used the better they are.Driven at least 5 days a week .Also good fun just to drive it.We have some nice roads on the doorstep !.
Don't use in snow but have winter cups with winter tyres which give better grip in cold wet conditions.

When my daily went down and I was forced to use one of the pool cars at work my 944 became a daily driver straight away. Despite it being at my friend's lockup for a month (I MOT'd and insured the 205 back into use) it has still covered over 5,000 miles since February. Lovely thing to drive it has to be said. In that time the only real gripe has been the DME relay upon starting the car (tapping the relay worked, but I did eventually replace it).

But my daily does around 50k a year, so some of that was passed onto the 944 when it was out of action.

Saying that, I did put on a few miles onto my S2 upon buying it (it was my only working car at the time). That worked quite well, even when I was running it on its scrap engine. Changing it to the fresher unit simply aided the experience.

Oddly enough, my 951 is better than my S2 was to drive by quite a margin in addition to presenting me with less issues. That was despite the Turbo having 40k more on the clock than the S2.

For now though, I have retired the Turbo from daily use. The fact that I would rather get shot of the Stag first (being prepared as we speak) in addition to the Porker needing some paint on the rear arches (water and a small amount of rust do not mix) has forced me for not to use it less, but I believe it is for the better (Yes I could repair it first, but it makes far more sense to streamline my fleet IMHO so I really can give the cars I prefer more attention) :).

Mine's a daily driver. I've had it 4 years and do about 6k miles a year. 10 miles to work along twisty Suffolk country lanes - brilliant (until you meet a tractor!)

I used mine as a daily for a couple of years until about a year ago. Now in Central London, so walk to bus to the office. It's now a weekend car.

My 944 just sits in the garage for months on end, it's been undercover since August and probably won't be out until a march next year, but being a pensioner I don't need a car for work etc

I have a swb Land Cruiser for general running about and fighting the worst of the Cumbrian weather plus a new Seat Mii for nipping to the supermarket for a pensioners special lunch [;)]

My ZRX1200 does less miles than the 944 but I can get enjoyment from just cleaning the bike, I have OCD where the bike is concerned.

Then there is my 1975 TR7 factory development and press car .....it's been off the road 22 years !!

Mine was used as a daily driver for about 14 months. I had a Range Rover which shat its turbo through the block causing £11k worth of damage. The new Garret turbo was about £2k all in so I decided to buy a new car with a budget of more or less what the replacement turbo cost. I then sold the Range Rover (f*****g useless pile of s**t) and used the 944 as my daily ride every day clocking up about 14,000 miles.

It was brilliant and I loved every single morning no matter what the weather was doing. It always put a smile on my face.

The car is now being prepared for historic rallying and I am missing it terribly. I'm running a BMW 530i M Sport now as my daily driver and while it is waaaaaaaay faster than the Porsche is doesn't give the grin factor, and that is coming from a proper BMW E39 fan.

I've just spent £600 on some new M-Tech 2 suspension for the E39 so I'll be running it for another year or two I reckon but will almost certainly replace it with a late model S2 or 968 for daily duties after that.

Here are a couple of the highlights of my early car when it was my daily...

The "Ring" and back plus, two Sunday outing's for my Turbo this year and that's it! Oh, nearly forgot, a few trips to JMG in Bournemouth as well. Total of about 2k miles.

I used my 944 turbo and 924S's as daily / work cars - although I do work from home quite a lot. We always had another "family" estate alongside them though. Not sure I could use the S2 as my only car - I think it might get a bit wearing.

Mine was a daily driver for two years all year round, family holidays etc and was brilliant in the snow.

Sadly it hasn't really moved in the last couple of months, although it is out for a couple a 200 mile round trip today and am hoping to track it again next month.

I have the Dust mobile (astra van) then the family mobile (pug308)
And I have my toy the 44 I try to take her out most weeks for a drive put only 4k on this summer
Off the road in winter for working on
