Hi, I have got a crystal green 944 and looking round there don't seem to many around this colour, is it a rare colour?

It's not an uncommon colour on older 911's and to a lessrer extent 928's but you dont seem to see that many 944's in it. I do remember an immaculate Crystal green 944 on E-Bay about a year ago but dot quote me on the year bit I'm always on E-Bay. I'm pretty sure it had Fuschs on it too. You werent the buyer were you Cheers Mas

Bit of bad news [] the sills looked solid when I looked at the car but just found they are full of filler, so will have to get the welder out. Ed

As you can see from the pic below some welding has been done before but not very well.

It should be OK the floor is solid and round the rear suspension mount is OK. Why is it so wet in there is the sun roof drain going into the sill? I know the ones on BMW's do and causes the sills to rot. Ed

No, they go out through the a-pillar and boot. The sills are open, so do get water in, so it's likely the drain holes were blocked. This is, ironically, often with waxoyl that's been sprayed in without clearing the drain holes afterwards. The sills are vented both ends, so should dry out when driven regularly, but there will always be moisture in the sills, even if only condensation, so regular treatment is the only way to keep them from rusting.

Today I got round to doing some work on the 944 sill. 1st I welded a 20mm x 40mm box section in.

Once that was seam weled in I tacked the middle panal in place.

Sorry it's so bad,but at least you are on the road to recovery.It's alot worse than mine was and I ended up replacing the floor.I started and dsid pretty much what you have done,then after I had it done I changed my mind and took it all back off and went in further to replace the floor inner,outer and intermediate sills as well as the suspension mounts and the rear lower quarter.I wish you all the best with it and hope you get her on the road again soon.

I do enjoy posts like this, keeping another 944 on the road is great news. Please update with the work as you go along. Whish I had the skills to do this kind of work.
