Cotswold Rally-some local knowledge

Hi Cotswold Region,
I live in Northumberland, am a member of the north east region attending this years Cotswold rally in August.
I‘m looking for somewhere to stay ideally a B&B or a pub near a canal and not too far (say a max of 15 miles) from Greet where my brother lives.Somewhere safe to park my car overnight would be good too.
Finally any hints and tips regarding the rally itself would be great.
Can anyone give me some help here?

Delighted that you are making such a long trip for the rally. Thank you.

I can’t offer much help on accommodation other than to suggest the obvious Booking.com or AirBnb. A quick look this morning shows some good hotel offers in Cheltenham.

For the rally itself:

A good navigator is a real asset as following the tulip map and driving can be quite difficult. If you are running solo, please make this known to the organisers on the day, they will try to pair you with a team that you can follow, alternatively make a new friend in the car park, we are a friendly bunch….


Start at Cornbury with a full tank of fuel, there is an Esso station on the main road through Moreton in Marsh.


Zero your mileage trip meter as you leave the Clubhouse.


Bring a portable chair (or 2).

There will be drivers briefings at the clubhouse which will include what to do if lost and other useful information.

I am sure that other members will be along with more good advice.

Just to add to Brian’s comments on accommodation, the only canals in the Cotswolds are near Stroud, some 30 miles away so you’ll struggle to find anywhere canal-side close to Greet.

As per Brian’s suggestion, Cheltenham is the closest big town so will likely have most options but you may also want to consider smaller Winchcombe, which is close to Greet (walking distance for some), is a beautiful small town with good pubs (recommend the Lion & White Hart) and some stunning walks near by. Most accommodation will likely have on street parking (albeit some streets are very quiet) and there is some dedicated surface car parking in the town too.

Otherwise, perhaps consider Broadway - further away from Greet and slightly bigger than Winchcombe but just as attractive, it has a couple of hotels that have their own parking and a few more restaurant options & shops (very good Indian and Fish & Chips (Russell’s) + plus some good bistro options). It also sits on the Cotswold Way and there is a great walk (or drive up the sweeping bends of Fish Hill) from the town to Broadway Tower & cafe, with extensive views across the Cotswolds and beyond.
